Job Description
Position Summary Our client is seeking a hands-on, highly capable Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for our growing filter manufacturing business. This is a build-and-improve role, not a maintain-an-existing-system role. The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing accounting experience and the ability to step into an environment that needs structure, select the right accounting/ERP software, build the finance processes, establish internal controls, and create reporting that supports sound operational and strategic decisions. This person must be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, working closely with ownership and plant leadership, and building a finance function that can scale with the company. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Accounting Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management. Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting. Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and operational dashboards for leadership. Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies. Lead annual audit, tax, and banking/lender reporting processes as needed. Software Selection & Systems Buildout Assess the company's current accounting, inventory, and reporting environment and recommend the best-fit software platform(s). Lead the evaluation, selection, implementation, and optimization of accounting/ERP/MRP systems. Design a scalable chart of accounts, financial reporting structure, and data architecture that supports manufacturing operations. Ensure the selected systems properly support inventory, BOMs, costing, purchasing, production, and financial reporting. Build processes and controls around system use, data accuracy, approvals, and reporting. Process Development & Internal Controls Build and document accounting policies, procedures, and workflows from the ground up where needed. Establish strong internal controls across cash, purchasing, payables, receivables, inventory, and financial reporting. Create standardized month-end close, reconciliations, approvals, and reporting calendars. Improve visibility into financial and operational performance through better process design and reporting discipline. Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements that increase accuracy, speed, and accountability. Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance Develop and maintain accurate product costing, including raw materials, labor, overhead, scrap, and production variances. Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, physical inventory, WIP, and finished goods valuation. Analyze manufacturing performance, including labor efficiency, yield, scrap, material usage, and margin by product/customer. Partner with operations, production, purchasing, and leadership to improve profitability, cost controls, and working capital. Support pricing decisions with cost and margin analysis. Planning & Business Partnership Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning. Build meaningful KPIs and financial dashboards for leadership and department managers. Provide decision support related to capital expenditures, margin improvement, process investments, and growth initiatives. Serve as a key business partner to ownership and operations leadership in scaling the business. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with significant experience in a manufacturing environment. 3+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar senior accounting leadership role. Proven experience in manufacturing cost accounting, including inventory, BOMs, WIP, standard costing, variance analysis, and overhead allocation. Demonstrated success selecting, implementing, or significantly upgrading accounting/ERP systems.
