  • Full-time Job Summary The Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting industrial control systems and automation equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
This role focuses on PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, and networked control systems that support high-speed production lines, utilities, and facility operations. The Controls Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving system performance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives by diagnosing electrical and control-related issues, implementing system modifications, and ensuring all automation systems operate within company and regulatory standards. Core Competencies & Responsibilities 1. Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, electrical safety standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Perform work in compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Ensure all control system work is completed safely and does not introduce operational or safety risks.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, electrical hazards, or system failures.
2. Quality & Standards Ensure all control systems support product quality and consistent production output. Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, changes, and troubleshooting activities. Support compliance with GMP standards and production requirements. Verify system functionality after repairs or modifications. 3. Productivity & Operational Excellence
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and control systems to minimize downtime.
  • Support high-speed production lines by resolving electrical and automation issues quickly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on control systems and electrical components.
  • Assist with system upgrades, programming changes, and equipment installations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide rapid technical support 4.
Communication & Teamwork Communicate system status, issues, and repair progress to Maintenance and Production teams. Collaborate with Maintenance Mechanics, Engineers, and Production personnel to resolve issues. Support training of operators and maintenance staff on control-related systems when needed. Maintain a professional, solution-focused, and team-oriented approach. 5.
Technical / Job
-Specific Skills Strong knowledge of PLC systems. Experience with HMI systems, SCADA interfaces, and industrial networking. Understanding of electrical systems, control panels, wiring, and instrumentation. Experience with VFDs, motors, sensors, and automated production equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical drawings. Basic programming and troubleshooting of control systems.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or technical certification in electrical, controls, or automation preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, controls, or automation in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Certifications:
Electrical or controls certifications preferred.
Other Requirements:
Strong troubleshooting ability, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Physical & Environmental Requirements Standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs. Continuous exposure to high-speed machinery and conveyor systems. Exposure to noise, moving machinery, and temperature variations. Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
