Full Job Description Overview:
The Nottingham, Central New York's Premiere Retirement Community, is now hiring for Assistant Cooks! An assistant cook should possess understanding of basic cooking equipment. Candidates should be comfortable working in fast-paced environments in which quality work is of the utmost importance. Positive and energetic interaction with other team members is required. Light amounts of lifting (usually less than 20 pounds) may be required as well. Work typically is performed in an industrial-style kitchen. Applicants must be comfortable standing in one spot for a long period of time. Reading comprehension is critical, as line cooks will be expected to read and follow recipes with no mistakes. Applicants should be very comfortable working as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
Follow recipes and product directions for preparing food. Stock, date, rotate and check temperature of products. Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment. Taste products and keep records in order to accurately plan food production. Must be able to pass background check and drug test Ability to work every other weekend ServSafe certification a plus
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or TABE test required. High volume cooking experience in a large institution is desirable. Must become ServeSafe certified, Level I, at the first opportunity presented by employer to take course. Good reading, writing and basic mathematical skills required. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written directions. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and positively with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift boxes, cartons, and pans of food up to 50 lbs. Ability to frequently stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions. Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours). Ability to do routine cleaning.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to adapt to hot or cold environments while performing the duties of this job.
