Position Description:
The Coordinator of Pupil Appraisal assists the Director of Pupil Appraisal in planning and implementing staff development for the special education office and school personnel. The Coordinator of Pupil Appraisal collects and maintains data to ensure district, state, and federal compliance.
Reports To:
Director of Pupil Appraisal
Scope of Responsibility:
Assists with assignments of Pupil Appraisal staff. Supervises Pupil Appraisal personnel. Assists Pupil Appraisal personnel with eligibility criteria determinations and evaluation procedures according to Louisiana Bulletin 1508. Assists school staff and parents with concerns relating to student referral and/or placement. Collects and maintains data to ensure compliance with district, state and federal regulations. Communicates with home, school and community regarding special education programs within the district. Participates as needed in special education monitoring of special education records to ensure compliance. Works with area transportation coordinators to facilitate the transportation of special education students. Assists in planning and implementing staff development for office and school personnel. Reviews information submitted for compliance and interim requests per Louisiana Bulletin 1508. Oversees the site determination process for students who are unable to attend their district school. Reviews Special Education extraordinary transfer requests. Compliance Components Reviews evaluations to improve compliance with Louisiana Bulletin 1508. Attends ABIT, IEP, MDR, and eligibility meetings at schools upon request. Participates in ABIT, IEP, MDR, and eligibility meetings, which may take place before or after hours. Sends out evaluation and reevaluation management reports on set dates and monitor compliance. Collaborates with those providing and overseeing special education to assist with compliance to federal and state laws. Supervision Fulfills duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions. Assists with the supervision of Pupil Appraisal personnel. Completes and/or assists in the preparation/implementation of employee pre- post- observations, evaluations, Intensive Assistance Plans, and other associated tasks and monitoring. Non-instructional and Other Component Plans and facilitates Pupil Appraisal cluster/department meetings. Plans and facilitates professional development or training sessions that may start before or after work hours. Attends professional development or training sessions. Attends job fairs and related events. Serves as evaluation team member as need due to staff shortage. Attends Central Office and Department meetings. Attends back-to-school, open-house, and other school events as appropriate. Interviews, employs, and completes necessary hires. Attends PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings. Attends school board/committee meetings, upon request. Participates in the preparation of necessary disciplinary documents and corresponding disciplinary process. Assists in monitoring of state testing that may start before or after work hours. Assists in monitoring of talent testing that may start before or after work hours. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Appraisal or Executive Director of Special Education Compliance and Pupil Appraisal and/or the Chief of Student Support.
Skills and Qualifications:
We seek detail-orientated, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will demonstrate and/or possess: Master's degree in Special Education, or a related field from an accredited university/college. Appropriate licensure and/or certification as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students with disabilities. Strong leadership, organizational, and data management skills. Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration abilities. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations. Working knowledge of federal and state laws, policies and regulations relevant to schools. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Google Suite.
Desirable Qualifications:
Bilingual. Experience coordinating special education evaluations. Experience in interpretation of psychological testing for exceptional children.
Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required part of each workday. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
