Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated healthcare team as a Correctional Nurse - LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse), where you will play a vital role in providing compassionate, comprehensive nursing care within correctional facility settings. We are looking for positions in a clinic/urgent care type setting. The day to day job deals with clinic and sick call visits. Ideal candidates would have experience in long term care/clinic and corrections settings. We have had reports from applicants that previously worked this unit, there are some halls that have more combative inmates resulting in more incidents. Understanding this is very important to working the contract. This energetic position offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality patient care to diverse populations, including individuals with complex medical needs, developmental disabilities, and chronic conditions. As a Correctional Nurse, you will be instrumental in ensuring safety, health, and well-being through proactive assessments, timely interventions, and meticulous documentation. Your expertise will help foster a secure environment while promoting health and recovery for those under your care. Duties Perform thorough patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews to determine immediate needs and ongoing care plans. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and treatments such as wound suturing or catheterization with precision and adherence to protocols. Manage acute pain cases, triage urgent health issues, and coordinate with healthcare providers for specialized interventions like ICU or emergency medicine procedures. Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner; ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality. Conduct specimen collection/processing, perform phlebotomy, and assist with diagnostic evaluations including medical imaging or laboratory tests. Provide health coaching and education tailored to individual needs—covering topics like dementia care, Alzheimer's support, or chronic disease management. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and post-acute care to support long-term recovery and community reintegration. Requirements Valid LVN license in good standing; current CPR/BLS certification required. Proven experience in diverse clinical settings such as hospital medicine, emergency room, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), or long-term care environments including nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, infection control practices, and medication administration protocols. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health challenges; familiarity with dementia or memory care is a plus. Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or urgent care clinics; excellent patient assessment skills are essential. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams and provide clear patient education.
