Rayburn Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated Corrections Colonel to join our leadership team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and operational integrity of the facility. The ideal candidate is an experienced corrections professional with strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to guide staff while upholding the mission, values, and standards of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. As a Corrections Colonel, you will oversee daily operations, support staff development, ensure policy compliance, and contribute to a secure and orderly environment for both staff and inmates. Five years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current driver's license. Assumes the responsibility of the Compound Unit manager (Assistant Warden 3) in his absence. Develops, recommends, and implements guidelines for the security of various programs. Makes daily inspections of the unit grounds, compounds, and operations to ensure policy and procedures are adhered to, ensuring all rules and regulations are enforced. Assigns drops, approves leave, provides counseling regarding the interpretation of rules, regulations, policies, etc., evaluates staff, disciplines staff/offenders when violations occur, and makes recommendations regarding personnel actions, promotions, shift assignments, etc. Through supervision, directions, and daily conferences from the Compound Unit Manager, the incumbent provides direction to security compound Lt. Colonels and Majors.Position-Specific Details :
