December 5, 2025 Maryville Addiction Treatment Center has a staff of dedicated professionals who devote themselves each day to helping people suffering from an addictive disease reclaim their lives. Our staff provides comprehensive high quality substance abuse and co-occurring treatment and recovery services to individuals and families affected by the disease of addiction. Our staff is committed to providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to implement behavioral interventions, social skill interventions, and support for patients in individual and group therapy to gain the necessary adaptive skills to be successful in recovery. Basic Function This individual is capable of performing independent work in the therapeutic care, treatment and rehabilitation of clients within the program. This position plans and conducts therapeutic activities and counsels therapeutically with clients on an individual and group basis. He/she must demonstrate an advanced understanding of the full continuum of care. In addition, this person must have a broad understanding of how a drug and alcohol treatment program operates and how each client progresses in the treatment system. In addition, this person must be comfortable facilitating co-occurring groups and provide co-occurring education to applicable clients. Essential Function 1. Assesses treatment plans for clients with mental health history using the ASI (Addiction Severity Index) and the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). 2. Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Patient Placement Criteria. 3. Obtains previous care records that are relevant to the current treatment episode. 4. Facilitates co-occurring groups and education about mental health diagnoses. 5. Collaborates with clients to develop a recovery treatment plan. 6. Provides substance abuse and mental health counseling services specified in the client treatment plan. 7. Observes clients throughout treatment to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge. 8. Engages clients, builds rapport, and increases readiness and commitment to change with motivational interviewing (MI) techniques. 9. Uses motivational enhancement techniques, including discussing continued challenges and consequences of continued substance use behaviors, as well as benefits associated with stopping or reducing substance use. 10. Uses functional analysis to understand the interrelationship between social, environmental, emotional, cognitive, and physical antecedents associated with client risk for substance use 11. Chooses, coaches, and delivers needed cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills and activities including but not limited to identification of automatic thoughts and core beliefs associated with substance use, cognitive restructuring for cravings and urges to use substances, training in communication skills, refusal skills, emotion regulation, problem-solving behaviors, and other healthy coping strategies. 12. Elicits commitment from the patient to practice the CBT and MI skills between sessions and in the future. 13. Develops discharge/transfer plan to ensure access to appropriate levels of care. 14. Contacts, consults and coordinates with referral sources as appropriate. 15. Participates with a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients. 16. Provides active case consultation. 17. • up in the client's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.

18. Continues special training in areas designated by the Supervisor. May also comply with requirements of

CADC/LCADC. 19.

Ensures proper collection and documentation of urine samples. 20. Attends, participates, and when necessary, case consultations, facilitate special events, such as seminars, lectures, retreats, trips, workshops, etc. 21. Must provide good role modeling behavior for clients. 22. Ensures proper and appropriate documentation of all clinical sessions, lectures, seminars and interventions. 23. Maintains full client case load and documentation of accountability procedures that require verification of interventions. 24. Attends all staff meetings and attends functions and/or meetings. Helps provide assistance as needed when the Administrator is not available. 25. Provides responsibility for alumni residents or others needing advanced levels of care. 26. Moderates special groups such as extended groups, family meetings, workshops, or presentations. 27. Provides orientation of new staff members when the Administrator or is not available. 28. Assesses the counseling needs of the clients; 29. Assesses clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool, and diagnosing clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5; 30. Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria; 31. Obtains previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode; 32. Unless clinically contraindicated, collaborate with the client to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is client centered, recovery oriented; 33. Develop, monitor and provide the client and treatment team a written schedule to update each client treatment plan(s) in order to ensure clients' needs are met; 34. Provide the substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan; 35. Review clients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria, to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer; 36. Review and, where necessary, revise the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems; 37. Develop a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care; 38. Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordinate with referral sources, (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP); 39. Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients; 40. Providing active case consultation; and 41. Document all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the client's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records. 42. Performs other responsibilities and duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at drug treatment facilities is required.
• Knowledge of the bio psycho social characteristics and manifestations of drug addiction is required.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior is required and the effective ways of working with people to encourage on-going recovery.
• Knowledge of co-occurring disorders is required.
• Must have the ability to work effectively with people, and aid them in identifying their specific needs.
• Must be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with clients while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other members of staff, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public.
• Must have the ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds.
• Familiar with a residential facility environment, primary functions performed, and an understanding of a client's levels of care.
• Experience with facilitating groups, seminars, meetings and/or specialized mental health therapeutic groups and activities is required.

Minimum Requirement Education/Licensure:

Master's or Bachelor's Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field degree is preferred. Associates Degree is required. Full certification as an Addictions Counselor is required. LPC, LAC, LCSW, or LSW would be required with a LCADC or CADC.

Experience:

At least two years working as a counselor is required, preferably in a drug treatment facility.

Other:

Must be available for weekend and/or evening duty, as needed.

Sobriety:

If recovering, must have at least two (2) years of continuous sobriety and maintain sobriety throughout employment. Competencies Required General Competencies 1. Quality 2. Productivity 3.
