Job Description

Crops Operations ManagerPosition Overview The Crops Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of crop production—from planning and planting through harvest and storage—with the goal of producing the highest quality corn silage, haylage, and other feed crops for the Oakridge herd. This role combines leadership, hands-on field work, equipment operation, and data-driven decision making while promoting a safe, efficient, and team-oriented work environment. The Crops Operations Leader works alongside the team daily and plays a key role in overall farm and facility maintenance at Oakridge. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management Organize, lead, and manage the crops team Work closely with the Director of Operations to coordinate daily and long-term priorities Communicate work-related information clearly with all farm departments Start each day with a clear plan for the team Assign, delegate, and follow up on daily and weekly tasks Train employees on tasks, equipment, and safety procedures as needed Provide ongoing performance feedback and address issues promptly Resolve conflicts professionally when they arise Create and manage weekly team schedules Review employee hours weekly and approve payroll Approve invoices and bills through Stampli Crop Production & Agronomy Oversee all crop operations, including: Corn silage, haylage, soybeans, and other forage or grain crops Manure handling, application, and dragline operations Fertilizer application and nutrient management Planting, drilling, spraying, harvesting, and packing the pile Trucking and coordination during harvest Coordinate overall crop planning and rotations Manage soil health, fertility, and long-term land productivity Track feed quality and work to continuously improve crop outcomes Ensure timely ordering and delivery of grain and crop inputs Manure Management Ensure manure is applied accurately, efficiently, and according to nutrient management plans Work closely with agronomists and regulators to maximize nutrient value while protecting soil and water quality Equipment Operation Work side-by-side with the team operating equipment and semi-trucks Promote and enforce safe equipment operation at all times Hold team members accountable for equipment care and safety Maintain CDL compliance and proper operating practices Maintenance & Repairs Oversee overall maintenance for Oakridge's facility, and equipment Ensure all equipment is repaired promptly and maintained in good working condition Assist hands-on with maintenance and repairs when needed Coordinate preventative maintenance to reduce downtime during critical seasons Coordinate repairs and upkeep to support efficient daily farm operations Identify maintenance needs proactively and address issues before they escalate Crop Data & Performance Analysis Understand and track cost of production Regularly review crop and operational performance metrics Research and implement improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency Provide input on key metrics and lead implementation of changes Compliance & Regulations Ensure CAFO and CNMP plans are current and followed at all times Work with FSA to: Keep all maps up to date Ensure landowner paperwork is signed and complete Work with NRCS to: Maintain compliance with all programs Seek and support grant opportunities Maintain accurate records and documentation Safety Promote a strong safety culture within the crops team Facilitate safety training as needed Ensure compliance with all safe work practices and procedures Community & Landowner Relations Help build and maintain Oakridge's positive reputation in the community Develop and maintain strong relationships with neighboring and local farmers Help identify opportunities to grow the land base Additional Responsibilities Identify and implement improvements to current work practices Practice strong time management and organizational skills Take initiative and follow through on projects Be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities, weather, and conditions Demonstrate persistence and a willingness to go the distance when needed Qualifications Agricultural background with strong knowledge of crop production Experience growing corn, soybeans, hay, and other forage or grain crops Experience operating heavy machinery and farm equipment Truck driving experience; CDL preferred Knowledge of manure management and dragline systems Willingness to work hands-on with the team and operate equipment daily Not afraid to get dirty or work around cows Core Values Fit Strong Work Ethic
