Important:
The pay range listed above represents the anticipated starting annual compensation for this position. It includes the base salary and a $100 per paycheck discretionary income supplement. Your final starting pay will be based on factors like your experience, education, and certifications. PURPOSE The Custodian receives general direction from the Head Custodian. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks with the objective of maintaining, repairing, and cleaning of the Towns buildings, and bathrooms for the safe and appealing enjoyment for the community and staff. These tasks require the use of manual tools, powered hand tools and other equipment generally associated with custodial work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodian I (Grade 12) Cleans floors, walls, windows, bathroom fixtures, stairs, empties trash containers, arranges furniture, and straightens public areas. Removes wax and renews, wood finishes Uses cleaning tools such as brooms, floor buffers, mops, vacuum cleaners, blowers. Must have good communication skills and be able to interact positively with the public, contractors and co-workers. Works on ladders to perform cleaning of overhead facilities (i.e., light fixtures, windows, etc.) To work independently or as a team. Knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment. May be required to assist with set up and tear down of holiday decorations. Sets up for meetings and events as required. May be required to assist with the cleaning of Park bathrooms. All other reasonably assigned duties. Custodian II (Grade 13) All duties above and the addition of: Leads/coordinates the work of Tech I's on the job requiring multiple staff. Ability to supervise, assign, track, and ensure completion of work orders and establish standards of performance. Ability to identify and correct potential OSHA violations as it pertains to area of responsibility. Minimum of 24 months experience as a non-probationary custodian or equivalent experience.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Custodian I (Grade 12) High school diploma or GED required. Possession of valid NC driver's license with an excellent driving record. Understanding of various floor maintenance systems (i.e. terrazzo, tile, ceramic tiles, etc.) as well as an understanding of high usage restroom maintenance. First Aid/CPR certification. Bloodborne Pathogens. Custodian II (Grade 13) All duties above and the addition of: Fork lift operator certification. Completion of the Spartan Chemical's Clean Check Training System.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Custodian I & Custodian II Ability to lift 75 pounds and move over short distances, and 35 pounds over extended distances. Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated environments. Must be able to pass extensive background checks of criminal history. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which include walking, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, pulling, pushing, reaching or sitting for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying light to moderate equipment and materials and operating assigned vehicles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works both indoors and outdoors, year-round, and in all weather conditions. This position requires occasional evening, weekend, holiday and call-in work. This position is considered an "
ESSENTIAL POSITION
