This role oversees service technicians, ensures safe and efficient maintenance activities, manages customer relationships, and drives operational excellence to maximize system performance and customer satisfaction. The Field Service Manager is accountable for meeting service-level agreements (SLAs), maintaining compliance with safety regulations, and supporting the long-term reliability of solar assets. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Field Service Technicians and subcontractors. Establish performance goals and conduct regular employee evaluations for Field Service Technicians. Promote a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation across multiple service locations. Operations & Service Delivery Manage preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty activities for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy storage systems, and associated equipment. Monitor work quality and ensure all service activities are completed accurately and efficiently. Develop and implement processes that improve operational performance, technician productivity, and service quality. Customer Relationship Management Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding service operations and escalated issues. Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional customer service. Technical Oversight Provide technical guidance and support for troubleshooting solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, monitoring platforms, energy storage systems, and related electrical equipment. Review service reports, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans. Ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements, industry standards, and warranty obligations. Stay current on emerging solar technologies, equipment, and industry best practices. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, electrical codes, and company safety programs. Maintain proper training and certification records for field personnel. Ensure all service activities are conducted in accordance with environmental, health, and safety requirements. Financial & Administrative Management Manage departmental budgets, labor costs, vehicle expenses, and inventory levels. Approve Field Service Technicians' timesheets, expense reports, and procurement requests. Support forecasting, workforce planning, and operational reporting requirements. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in engineering, Renewable Energy, Business Management, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred. Relevant technical certifications may be accepted in lieu of formal education. Experience 5+ years of experience in solar operations, field service, electrical maintenance, or renewable energy operations. 3+ years of supervisory or management experience leading field service teams. Experience working with residential, commercial, and industrial solar PV systems. Proven experience managing customer relationships and service contracts. Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of solar photovoltaic systems, inverters, energy storage systems, transformers, SCADA systems, monitoring platforms, and electrical distribution systems. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, NEC, and industry safety standards. Ability to interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Customer-focused mindset with exceptional relationship management skills. Preferred Qualifications NABCEP certification. OSHA 30 certification. Electrical license or relevant trade certification. Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Knowledge of utility-scale solar operations and maintenance practices. Physical and Work Requirements Ability to work in both office and outdoor field environments. Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, including occasional overnight travel. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures as required. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, arc-flash protection, and fall protection equipment. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability under company vehicle policies. Ability to respond to emergency service situations outside normal business hours when required.
