Job Description
The Service Manager will oversee all aspects of the service department. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality repairs, efficient operations, and superior customer service. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader who can effectively manage and develop a team of technicians while remaining hands-on to support diagnostics, repairs, and training when necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a team of transport refrigeration and heavy-duty trailer technicians to achieve department goals in safety, quality, and productivity. Oversee daily operations of the service department, including scheduling, workflow management, quality of repairs, and repair prioritization. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with manufacturer standards and company policies. Provide hands-on support and training in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and actual repairs of reefer units, APU's, and heavy-duty trailers if needed. Conduct technician training, reinforcing proper repair techniques, and company standards. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including labor efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Manage work orders, and customer invoices. Collaborate with parts, sales, and administrative teams to ensure smooth interdepartmental communication and operations. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, promoting a culture of safety and accountability. Drive continuous improvement through process evaluations, technician feedback, and performance reviews. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in transport refrigeration service (Carrier / Thermo King) and or heavy-duty trailer service. 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills; able to perform hands-on repairs and lead by example. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to train and mentor technicians with varying levels of experience. Strong organizational and computer skills; experience with service management software preferred. Essential Competencies Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
