Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Service Writer to join our fast-paced diesel repair shop. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary communicator between customers and our service department, ensuring a seamless experience from vehicle drop-off to pick-up. Your expertise in automotive diagnostics, mechanical knowledge, and customer service will help accurately assess vehicle needs, prepare detailed estimates, and promote additional services that enhance vehicle performance and safety. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine technical understanding with exceptional client communication skills, contributing to customer satisfaction and dealership success. Responsibilities Greet customers warmly upon arrival, listen carefully to their vehicle concerns, and gather detailed information about the issues they are experiencing. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections using automotive diagnostics tools and mechanical knowledge to identify necessary repairs or maintenance. Prepare accurate estimates utilizing estimating software, clearly explaining repair options, costs, and timelines to customers. Communicate effectively with technicians regarding repair procedures, parts needed, and estimated completion times. Promote upselling of additional services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake repairs, suspension work, or transmission services to maximize customer value. Maintain detailed documentation of all service orders, repair recommendations, and customer interactions for transparency and record-keeping. Handle cash transactions accurately while providing excellent customer service throughout the entire service process. Requirements Proven experience as a Service Writer or in a similar automotive service management role within a dealership environment. Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance procedures including oil changes, brake repairs, suspension work, shocks & struts, transmissions, and tire services. Familiarity with estimating software and computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools. Excellent communication skills to effectively explain technical issues to customers and collaborate with technicians. Ability to upsell services confidently while maintaining integrity and customer trust. Prior experience in auto service management or collision repair is highly desirable. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to drive various vehicles safely. Customer service-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to client communication and satisfaction. Basic cash handling skills with attention to detail for accurate transactions.
