This role also coordinates closely with the Animal Care Technicians, assists with care of animals, as needed, and coordinates effectively with the City's Animal Control Division. The Customer Service position will perform tasks such as answering phones, greeting visitors, providing information and assisting customers with adoptions, acting as cashier for all transactions, receiving and processing animals and assisting the public in selecting pets for adoptions. Candidates for this position must also be able to assist with cleaning, disinfecting kennels and work areas, as needed to supplement kennel staffing, collecting data, maintaining records on the impounding and releasing of animals. Also, candidates will be expected to prepare reports and other written materials, schedule surgeries and perform other duties as assigned. Candidates must possess a strong customer service orientation, excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, be knowledgeable about computer and database management (experience with Shelterluv preferred), have the ability (or be capable of developing) to identify various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals, have or learn the core principles of animal behavior and humane care, have knowledge of or learn methods and procedures of kennel cleaning and maintenance, be able to create and maintain accurate records, engage in safe work practices, have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary in the area of animal services, have knowledge of safe driving principles and practices. Must maintain a California Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Successful applications must be able to: Work with minimal supervision. Work a flexible schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Assist with inquiries from the general public over the telephone and in person at the public counter. Compile fee calculations for adoptions, sales, and animal impound fees; Collect appropriate fees. Complete appropriate paperwork for adoption, redemption, and intake of animals. Input and maintain accurate computerized records and generate reports. Prepare written materials, as needed. Develop and maintain informational handouts on current fees, new ordinances, and adoptions. Receive, handle, and process domestic, exotic, and wild animals. Perform other related duties as assigned; assist with the release and adoption of animals; microchip animals as required. Assist supervision with ordering and maintaining supplies needed at the shelter. Serve as cashier; handle customer transactions. Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Successful applications must:
Have one (1) year of experience working with domestic animals in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital or other related field is preferred. Previous customer service experience is desirable. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus. Pass background check, physical examination, and drug screening. Maintain a California Class C driver's license with a good driving record. We operate the Upland Animal Shelter on behalf of the City of Upland and are responsible for sheltering lost and abandoned animals and finding homes for every animal that is available for adoption. We also operate 2nd Chance Thrift Shop at 140 N Mountain Avenue in Upland to help offset the cost of operating the shelter and gladly accept donations. We invite you to get involved.
