  • Saturday, TBD The Client Support Specialist is responsible for reviewing, evaluating and verifying intake information and assuring compliance with program eligibility guidelines.
The Client Support Specialist will also provide direct support to participants, ensuring their access to facilities and resources and providing support and crisis intervention as needed. This position is key in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment that meets the immediate needs of program participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Security Monitor the premises, ensuring a safe and secure environment for participants, staff, and visitors, especially for individuals who are medically vulnerable or have behavioral health needs. Conduct regular safety checks, enforcing program policies regarding curfew, visitor policies, and participant conduct in line with the HFH guidelines. Address emergency situations or disturbances promptly, following established safety protocols, and ensure timely reporting of incidents. Participant Support and Engagement Foster a supportive and respectful environment using a trauma-informed approach that addresses the consequences of trauma and fosters healing through safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, and empowerment. Assist in the intake and orientation of participants referred by the County or partner agencies, ensuring immediate housing solutions and connection to necessary services (medical, mental health, etc.). Maintain ongoing communication with participants, providing basic support for their immediate needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene products, ensuring their well-being while in the shelter. Program Operations Maintain records of participant engagement, including logs of services provided, bed checks, and any necessary behavioral reports. Facilitate participant access to health/mental health services as outlined in the SOW, ensuring high-quality monitoring of participants' needs. Coordinate with Intensive Case Management Services (ICMS) to assist participants in their transition from interim housing to permanent housing. Responsibilities Common to all First Day Employees Employ a strengths base and "whatever it takes approach" to assist participants; Maintain a safe work environment and confidentiality at all times; Be proactive, creative and flexible in determining, evaluation, researching and resolving issues; Organize and prioritize multiple activities to meet all external and internal deadlines; Maintain professional demeanor that reflects positively on First Day; Demonstrate respect and courtesy towards others; Respond in timely manner in all aspects of communication; Work with minimum supervision; and Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required :
AA Degree or two years of experience in social services, hospitality, or health care including experience dealing with substance use in clients and crisis intervention. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Web-based programs, HMIS and any other database software(s) used to track work outputs. Valid CA Driver's License, auto insurance and reliable transportation. If providing driving support on behalf of First Day, must be able to meet vehicle insurance requirements to be covered by First Day's Vehicle Insurance policy at all times while employed.
Preferred:
Minimum two years of non-profit experience with the homeless population and/or case management in a supervisorial or management role. CPR/First Aid Training Certification and HMIS Training Certification within 6 month of hire (training provided). Written and oral proficiency in Spanish. In the course of performing this job, this position typically spends long periods of time sitting, standing, climbing stairs, walking and carrying and lifting 20 (lbs.). It requires coordination of multiple tasks, performing repetitive motion activities (typing), and firm/strong grasping. Operation office equipment such as phone, fax, copier, and computer.
