Dairy Herdsman

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Dairy Herdsman to oversee the daily care and management of organic grass fed dairy cattle on our farm. This vital role involves ensuring the health, safety, and productivity of the herd through attentive animal husbandry, equipment maintenance, and farm operations. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive attitude, strong mechanical skills, and a passion for sustainable farming practices to support our commitment to high-quality dairy production. Responsibilities Provide daily animal care including feeding, watering, grooming, and monitoring herd health to promote optimal milk production and animal well-being Manage herd movements, assist with breeding programs, and ensure proper handling techniques to maintain safety for animals and staff Operate and maintain farm machinery such as tractors, milking equipment, irrigation systems, and heavy equipment with precision and safety awareness Conduct routine inspections of equipment repairs, welding tasks, and general maintenance to ensure all farm tools and machinery are in top condition Supervise farm staff in tasks related to animal handling, equipment operation, and general farm duties while fostering a collaborative team environment Assist with infrastructure upkeep including fencing repairs, greenhouse management, irrigation setup, and other horticultural or growing activities as needed Maintain detailed records of herd health, feed schedules, maintenance activities, and operational logs to ensure compliance with farm standards Experience Proven supervising experience in agricultural or farm settings with a focus on dairy or livestock management Hands-on experience with animal husbandry practices such as feeding routines, health assessments, and handling techniques for dairy cattle or similar livestock Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate hand tools efficiently in various farm tasks Join us in this dynamic role where your skills will directly contribute to sustainable dairy farming.
