Job Description
Hoosac Valley High School, an Innovation Career Pathway school, is seeking a Dean of Students to serve as a key member of the leadership team. This role will focus primarily on student behavior, accountability, and the consistent implementation of consequences, with a strong emphasis on restorative practices. The ideal candidate will be skilled in coaching staff on effective classroom management, possess strong analytical abilities and attention to detail, and ensure all documentation and compliance tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. This individual will collaborate with a highly motivated team to support the development of classrooms that prioritize student voice, choice, and meaningful engagement.
Primary ResponsibilitiesLeadership & VisionImplement, monitor, and refine the schoolwide code of conduct Ensure discipline practices align with district policy and state regulations.
Create a clear, consistent framework for behavior expectations across all settings.
Analyze behavior data to identify trends and proactively address concerns.
Lead professional development for staff on behavior systems, de-escalation, and classroom management.
A demonstrated belief that each and every student can achieve at high levels;Supervision & Staff ManagementDirectly supervise the RESET room staff.
Conduct regular meetings to align on expectations, data, and student progress.
Provide coaching and feedback to staff members to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
Develop and enforce clear protocols for referrals, documentation, and follow-up.
Evaluate performance of supervised staff in collaboration with administration.
Student Discipline & InterventionInvestigate and respond to major behavioral incidents.
Facilitate restorative conferences and re-entry meetings.
Communicate discipline decisions to families in a timely and professional manner.
Ensure consequences are consistent, fair, and instructional.
Develop individualized behavior plans for high-need students.
Coordinate with special education, counselors, and outside agencies when necessary.
Family & Community CommunicationServe as the primary contact for significant behavior matters.
Partner with families to develop strategies for student success.
Maintain accurate documentation of all disciplinary actions.
Systems & ComplianceEnsure compliance with district policies, state and federal laws (i.e 37H, Title IX).Maintain accurate discipline records and required reporting.
Monitor equity in discipline practices.
