Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Surgical Assistant to support our dental team in providing comprehensive patient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in dental assisting, with expertise in chairside support, infection control, and medical documentation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic dental clinic environment, assisting with a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The Dental Surgical Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring smooth clinical operations while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and comfort. Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Assist the dentist during various procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, DentrixAscend, and Epic to document treatment details accurately. Monitor vital signs and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient assessments. Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients, ensuring they understand care procedures. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and maintaining medical documentation. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, following infection control standards and aseptic techniques at all times. Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by applying specialized knowledge of pediatric dental terminology and anatomy. Collaborate effectively with the dental team to ensure efficient four-handed dentistry practices and optimal patient outcomes. Qualifications Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting, preferably with exposure to general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, or pediatric dentistry. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation standards. Familiarity with X-ray techniques, medical imaging including 3D scanners, and vital signs monitoring. Strong understanding of infection control protocols, aseptic technique, and dental terminology. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during complex procedures involving medical coding and technical equipment. Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, and coordinating with team members. Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to dentistry and general healthcare practices is highly desirable.
