Job Description

Department Chair, English/ Academic English Language Program Fall/Spring Stipend:
$5000. Summer Compensation- $3000. 9 hour reduced load per semester Reports to the Dean of Liberal Studies and Culinary Arts Provides departmental leadership. Supervises all full time and part-time faculty Evaluates full time faculty as outlined in the TLC contract Screens applications, interviews and recommends candidates for hire ;orients new full- and part-time faculty members and coordinates mentorship and observations; Develops English/ Academic English Language course offerings and assigns faculty schedules; Sets the agenda and leads department meetings Oversees the planning, agenda and execution of Advisory Board meetings. Oversees curricular development, instructional innovation and course revision within the department by assisting faculty in accurately following curriculum procedures by stated deadlines. Orders course resources and helps process OER adoptions. Assures that standardized Blackboard Course Shells are updated Manages complaints and concerns from students and faculty pertaining to instructional matters; Ensures completion of scheduled Academic Program Reviews. Supports faculty in the completion of programmatic self-studies, participating in external reviewer visits and subsequent Program Review Response and Action Plan meetings. Regularly updates and consults with the dean about the process, sharing documents and findings in a timely manner. Ensures programmatic and general education assessments are completed, as outlined in the Guide to Assessment for Continuous Improvement. Regularly engages faculty in conversation around assessment expectations, communicating expectations and results to both full-time and adjunct faculty, as applicable, and by annually tracking the completion of assessment requirements. Regularly updates and consults with the dean about the process, sharing documents and findings in a timely manner. Advises in planning, staffing and assessing English courses with high school partners; consults on student placement processes. Oversees the maintenance of master course syllabi on the assessment site, using the current standard syllabus template requirements. Actively promotes a climate of collegiality and peer suppo1t within the department and throughout the college. Fosters a positive morale and encourages professional and civil interpersonal communication; Participates in monthly Academic Affairs Council and Chairs and Coordinators meetings Participates in college recruitment activities. Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Must be a full-time faculty member within the department. Must have good interpersonal and collaboration skills. Must be transparent and thorough in communicating with direct supervisor. Must be available to complete summer duties.
