Job Description

This position functions as the lead worker and Senior Assistant FOIA Coordinator. This position leads the daily operations of the Records Production Unit analysts by assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of assistant FOIA coordinators to ensure accurate, timely, and legally compliant processing of 28,000 public records requests annually. The role independently manages the most sensitive and complex FOIA requests, provides expert guidance on statute interpretation, and serves as the primary escalation point for internal and external stakeholders. The position supports departmental transparency, develops training and procedures, monitors FOIA related legislation, and collaborates with MSP divisions and external partners. It also assists with routine FOIA processing and acts on behalf of the unit manager as needed. This position functions in a bias-free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service. Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major. Experience Three years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service. Departmental Analyst 12 Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement. This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
