Director of Public Works / City Engineer Position Overview The City is seeking an experienced and collaborative Deputy Director / Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Bureau within the Department of Public Works. This executive-level role provides strategic oversight of engineering operations, capital project delivery, and technical standards across the City. Working closely with the Director of Public Works, the Deputy Director/Chief Engineer ensures the successful planning, design, and execution of public infrastructure projects while supporting the broader operational goals of the Department. This position plays a key leadership role in supervising staff, managing budgets, coordinating with consultants, and maintaining strong relationships with internal departments, elected and appointed boards, and the public. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the Engineering Bureau Assign and oversee engineering projects and departmental initiatives Establish criteria and standards for design and construction of public works capital projects Review subdivision and site development activities Manage and review engineering studies, surveys, and technical analyses Coordinate and review work performed by engineering consultants Review specifications, bid documents, and recommend contract awards Provide engineering services and support to other City departments Respond to public inquiries and represent the Department at meetings (Planning Commission, etc.) Develop and manage the Engineering Bureau's operating and capital budgets Support budgeting efforts across all Public Works Bureaus Foster strong working relationships with City stakeholders and regional partners Qualifications Extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and public works project execution Demonstrated experience planning and designing infrastructure projects, including preparation of plans, estimates, and specifications Significant experience with operating and capital budgets Strong leadership and supervisory experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships Sound professional judgment and substantial engineering experience Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Pay:

$97,000.00 - $128,000.00 per year
