Job Description
JOB Salary:
$26.56/hr. minimumProvide law enforcement and protective services within the Municipal Court to protect City employees and the public, and foster general public compliance with City, State, and Federal laws. While Court is in session, the Deputy Marshal is subject to the orders of the Presiding Judge of the Court. Provide uniformed security for personnel, funds, and the facility. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintain security, integrity, and effectiveness of Municipal Court building and courtroom.Operate metal detection and x-ray devices to screen persons entering the Municipal Court building for possible possession of weapons; monitor security cameras, alarms, and access to secured areas.
Unlock the courtroom before dockets and lock courtroom after dockets.
Check in defendants, witnesses, and police officers; check-in and seat jurors for jury trials; escort defendants, witnesses, and public to assigned areas during trials.
Capture audio trial recordings and security video.
Ensure efficient operation and maintain order in the courtroom.
Protect judges, prosecuting attorneys, and others from physical violence, to ensure courtroom safety and compliance with courtroom procedures.
Communicate courteously and effectively with other City employees, officials, and the public, including persons of diverse backgrounds, without bias or prejudice, maintaining alertness, composure, helpful attitude and professionalism in all circumstances, including stress, verbal abuse, criticism, and/or other adverse conditions.
Provide information, assistance, and related court services to defendants and the general public.
Accept direction from supervisors and managers; keep supervisors informed of relevant activity.
Work well with managers, co-workers, and others both internally and externally.
Follow and evaluate security and operating procedures and make recommendations to supervisor.
Enforce appropriate City Ordinances, State and Federal laws, and all Court Policies.
Process and serve warrants, subpoenas and other legal process as ordered by the Municipal Court.
Call defendants regarding outstanding warrants.
Make arrests when necessary; arrest people with outstanding class C warrants at their residence or other locations; and coordinate the transfer of prisoners in other cities to the Mesquite jail and execute a bench warrant per Judge.
Make photocopies of documents and other items for Court.
Review and accept or reject potential photo enforcement violations.
Prepare for and attend photo enforcement hearings.
Monitor, operate, and maintain all security equipment.
Operate the following tools and equipment: personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, shredder, audio/visual equipment, television, VCR, automobile, emergency radio, first aid equipment, firearms, baton, pepper spray, handcuffs, metal detectors, and other defense-related equipment.
Lift, retrieve, carry and move boxes and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work flexible hours and on-call duty; arrive at work on time.
Assign or provide information related to court security in a courteous and timely manner; report status of assigned areas of responsibility, and make recommendations for change.
Monitor, evaluate, and make recommendations for improvements related to Court security.
Maintain appropriate uniform (including all equipment e.g. bulletproof vest, gun belt, etc.) and acceptable personal hygiene.
Attend training as required to maintain Texas Basic Certificate of Law Enforcement Officer Training and Marshall-related Texas Municipal Court training sessions.
Display proficiency in officer survival and safety tactics; perform defensive and/or other hand-to-hand combat tactics; demonstrate competent weapons proficiency; apply handcuffs to unwilling subjects; disarm aggressive subjects; maintain an acceptable physical fitness level.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist individuals with mobility impairments as needed. Administer CPR/first aid in emergency medical situations. Perform other duties as assigned.SUPPLEMENTAL
