Paint Paper Paste is looking for Lead Art Educators who believe that a paintbrush is a tool for problem-solving and that every "mess" is a breakthrough. If you're passionate about whole-child education, project-based learning, and the power of visual art for young artists, you're the kind of educator we're looking for. Lead Art Educator candidates must be contagiously enthusiastic and passionate about the creative process as well as dedicated to helping their artists achieve a high-quality final product they can be proud of. Lead Art Educators are the driving force of our studio and are responsible for designing and implementing top-tier project-based art lessons with an emphasis on elements of art, technical skills, and creative problem solving. Lead Art Educators lead instruction along with the help of our Studio Assistants, and are responsible for managing and guiding their assistants during planning, prep, and instruction. Lead Art Educator candidates must be self-motivated, dependable, resilient, punctual, efficient with time management of a classroom and individual time management, responsive team players, creative problem solvers, and highly effective with classroom management. Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in either Education, Child Psychology, Visual Art, or similar, and must have at least 2+ years experience as the primary teacher in a classroom setting with children ages 3-7. Positions Available (can be combined for one larger year-round position)
Seasonal Summer Educator:
must be available from 8:30am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday the following weeks: June 15-19, July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31 Preferred availability also on June 1-5 Open availability other summer weeks for possible substituting, 8:30am-4:40pm Start date: late May - early June Starting pay rate: $17/hour Duties & Responsibilities include: Developing and implementing developmentally appropriate project-based art lessons aligned with our studio's missions, goals, and brand Leading instruction during classes, camps, workshops, and other events for ages 3 (Pre-K) to 7 (2nd Grade) Energizing students to encourage high levels of engagement and creativity while also maintaining a structured classroom environment Differentiating for unique learning needs, styles, and differences, both in lesson plans and on the spot during instruction Collaborating with other educators to ensure a variety of art experiences and alignment of buildable skills and techniques for students to continue to develop throughout increasing levels Evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of programming and instruction, making adjustments as necessary to improve teacher effectiveness, learning outcomes, student engagement, and accessibility Creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels safe to take creative risks Delegating and overseeing prep, instruction, set-up, and clean-up tasks with Studio Assistants to ensure our studio is properly prepared prior to class and properly reset at the end Effectively utilizing stocked inventory of art supplies and collaborating with Directors to proactively request materials and supplies as needed in a timely manner Managing projects and tasks independently and efficiently Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and contributing to the overall organization of our studio •other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary•Education/Experience Undergraduate degree in one or more of the following fields: Art Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, Visual Arts, or similar At least 2+ years experience as the primary teacher in a classroom setting with children ages 3-7 Preferred Qualifications Outgoing and upbeat personality with a solution-oriented approach A genuine love for working with children and a high level of enthusiasm. Experience with a wide range of media, including acrylics, watercolors, clay, and mixed-media/upcycled art. The ability to pivot a lesson plan on the fly if a group's interest or energy level shifts. Punctuality and a strong sense of ownership in our studio space. Language Abilities Ability to verbally communicate effectively with participants, colleagues, and community members face-to-face. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong understanding of written lesson plans and ability to follow written instructions independently Artistic Abilities Proficient in various artistic techniques and mediums, including, but not limited to… Understanding of elements of art Drawing Watercolor/tempera painting Collage Air dry clay sculpting Color theory Weaving Cardboard construction Discernment of art materials and appropriate use Proficient in teaching artistic behaviors including, but not limited to… Proper use of art tools (paintbrushes, glue bottles, clay tools, etc.) Proper use and discernment of art materials and what to use when Maintaining a clean and organized working space Cleaning materials and tools (palettes, paintbrushes, etc.) Safety precautions for hazardous tools and materials (scissors, hot glue guns, etc.) Preferred skill - Hand sewing Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
