The Artistic Programming Manager leads all booking for Egg Presents programming at The Egg, working under the direction of the Executive + Artistic Director. This role is responsible for identifying, securing, and scheduling artists across all disciplines, ensuring a dynamic, balanced season that aligns with The Egg's artistic vision, audience goals, and financial targets. Blending curatorial insight with strong negotiation skills, the Artistic Programming Manager drives the day-to-day booking process while contributing to broader programming strategy. This individual plays a key role in shaping the season, building industry relationships, and delivering performances that engage audiences and support The Egg's continued growth.Expectations:
This person will have strong relationships with booking agents, managers, artists, other venue owners and promoters. The ideal candidate will be a curator with deep artistic knowledge while also balancing the financial needs of ticket sales and the commercial market. Someone who can put together a season and go after the artists we need to pack the house while also being tapped into the local Capital Region / Hudson Valley scene to build strong local connections with artists and partners.About The Egg:
The Egg is a performing arts center located in Albany, NY's Empire State Plaza. An unmistakable feature of the capital city's skyline, the venue houses two theatres - the Kitty Carlisle Hart Theatre (980), and the Lewis A. Swyer Theatre (440) - encased in a domed, egg-like concrete structure that took 12 years to construct and was completed in 1978. The Egg presents music, art, theatre, comedy, dance and family entertainment year-round. The Egg itself is owned by the State of New York and managed by the not-for-profit Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation. Following a transformative six-month renovation in 2025, 2026 marks a pivotal milestone as we work to "Hatch The Egg" with bold new programs and initiatives. This role joins our team at an inflection point, offering a unique opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and help shape our next chapter of growth. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Programming & Strategy Support development of programming strategy and contribute to season planning Identify artists and projects that align with artistic, audience, and financial goals Booking & Artist Relations Lead all booking for Egg Presents (free and ticketed) under the direction of the Executive + Artistic Director Research, pursue, and secure artists across disciplines Initiate outreach, generate offers, negotiate terms, and structure deals Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, managers, and artists Scheduling & Season Management Build and manage the performance calendar, aligning bookings with venue availability and organizational priorities Track touring trends and artist availability to inform decisions On-Site Event Management Serve as artist liaison for all Egg Presents performances Manage all payments for Egg Presents events, including artist deposits and settlements. Make pre-show onstage announcements when Executive + Artistic Director is unavailable Build relationships with Artists to ensure they have an amazing time at The Egg Financial & Internal Coordination Manage artist payments, including deposits and settlements Collaborate with internal teams to execute contracts and deliver successful eventsQualities Desired:
Deep familiarity with the performing arts landscape Awareness of touring trends and emerging artists Strong ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with artists and their management Proficient in managing multiple bookings, deadlines, and scheduling demands Confidence in initiating booking conversations and navigating negotiationsSchedule & Benefits:
This is a full time position with full benefits including health insurance and pension options. Will include nights and weekends. This role offers the ability to work from home when not needed on site. Flexible scheduling is required to support arts programming and live, on-site performance operations. Remote hours are self-directed and coordinated with the Executive + Artistic Director, with a focus on meeting all deadlines.
