A Broadcast Technician operates audio equipment and transmitters for a radio or television station. Operates and maintains equipment that regulates signal strength for a station. Arranges sound equipment and monitors the volume and quality of sound for programs; synchronizes sound with visual images for television shows or other broadcast events such as sports games. May edit recorded shows or productions.
Full-Time (40 hours/week) Position Summary PBS Kansas is seeking a dependable, accountable, and technically skilled Broadcast Engineer to support the station's broadcast, RF, production, and IT systems. This position reports to the Director of Technology and is responsible for maintaining the equipment and infrastructure that support our 24/7 broadcast transmission. The ideal candidate is honest, detail-oriented, communicates professionally, takes pride in quality work, and follows established procedures. The ability to document work, accept direction, and work collaboratively in a small engineering team is essential. This position participates in on-call rotation and requires schedule flexibility during station events, emergencies and holidays. Quarterly Pledge Drives will require 1st and 2nd shifts for the duration of the drives. Essential Duties Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair broadcast and IT equipment. Support live productions, master control operations, transmitter facilities, and technical projects. Maintain accurate documentation and follow established operational and engineering procedures. Provide technical support to station staff and respond to technical issues as needed. Participate in after-hours maintenance and emergency response activities. Qualifications Five (5) years of experience in broadcast engineering, RF systems, information technology, or a related technical field. Working knowledge of television broadcast systems, computer networking, Active Directory/domain administration, and cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Azure. Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and documentation skills. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and dependability. Valid driver's license and proof of insurance. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders and work in rooftops, ceilings, crawlspaces, and transmitter facilities. Sufficient color vision and hearing to evaluate audio and video quality.
