Job Description

Reporting to the Civic Media Manager,Civic Media Internshipswith the Town of Andoverprovidehands-on experience in the intersection of technology, communications, and community engagement. Interns willassistwith social media management, municipal website maintenanceanddesign, and the broadcast, production, and delivery of civic media content. These positions are ideal for college students or advanced high school students seeking practical skills in media production, digital communications, and public service.

Content & Communications Assist Director of Communications in creating and scheduling social media posts to promote civic events and programming. Support updates and maintenance of municipal websites, ensuring accuracy and accessibility. Help design and implement web content that aligns with community engagement goals. Media Production Participate in the setup, operation, and breakdown of equipment for live broadcasts and recordings of public meetings and events. Assist with video editing, chaptering, and uploading recorded content to PEG channels and online platforms. Learn and apply best practices for audio and video quality in civic media production. Technical Support Provide basic troubleshooting for AV equipment under supervision. Help maintain equipment logs and inventory for the Innovation Lab and broadcast systems. Support the integration of media content across multiple platforms. Innovation Lab Engagement Contribute to creative projects in the Innovation Lab, including podcasting, vlogging, and multimedia experiments. Assistin training sessions for community members using lab resources. Education Currently enrolled in college or advanced high school coursework in communications, media studies, information technology, or a related field. Skills & Experience Interest in social media strategy, video production, and web design. Familiarity with platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and municipal websites. Basic knowledge of video editing software and AV equipment preferred (training provided). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and follow technical instructions. Personal Attributes Creative and detail-oriented. Willingness to learn new technologies and processes. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. Commitment to public service and community engagement. Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments, intended tocomprise15-25 hours per week. Non-standard working hours, including some nights andweekendsto support public meetings and other civic events as needed. Standing, walking, and lifting light AV equipment may be required. Internship may be eligible for academic credit depending on school requirements.
