Job Description

The Production Technician role provides television and radio production skills and support to the organization for its own productions, as well as helping members create and broadcast their own programs. The position is responsible for operating television and radio studio equipment, production control and remote control-room facilities, field and mobile production equipment, audio, nonlinear editing, graphics and a variety of other software and IT gear. The Production Tech interfaces with members and facilitates their training. The position is key to the organization's on-air dependability, quality, and consistency, while also collaborating with and assisting all departments station-wide in day-to-day needs of production assistance. Qualifications Two years of post-secondary education, training, and/or related experience in television production or engineering Knowledge of video and audio production and post-production techniques Basic understanding of computer hardware and software, IT and networking Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays as required Ability to teach media and production equipment to others Ability to work cooperatively with people Ability to communicate ideas clearly in speech, writing Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record Must be able to transport production gear to location shoots Ability to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
Preferred Skills:
Software and Hardware Camera operation, including studio, remote, and P/T/Z systems Final Cut Pro editing Blackmagic Design gear, including ATEM switchers Behringer audio consoles: X32, Wing, Dante Adobe Photoshop NewBlue FX graphics software Google suite of software Elgato Streamdeck and Bitfocus Companion UniFi or familiarity with networking and IT NAS operation (Synology) Skaarhoj devices Job Responsibilities Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Production and Support Act as community producer during PCTV-controlled productions, including meetings, remote single- and multi-camera shoots, outside broadcast events, sports, paid production services assignments, and creation of promotional materials. Supervise, train, and assist volunteer members in the execution of television, radio, and digital media production.
Support member productions as needed:
TV Studio:
oversee all aspects of studio production as the program engineer, including proper lighting, camera placement and shading, audio, graphics, recording, and other program requirements.
Video Editing:
Assist members with operation of editing software and hardware; perform editing for company productions.
Sign-Out:
Assemble proper equipment as needed for members to take out, and ensure paperwork is in order; conduct spot training when necessary.
Radio:
Assist members with live and recorded production; perform post-production and uploading tasks. Serve as nighttime production manager with responsibilities for building security, safety of the members using the facility on your shift, and protection of the facility equipment. Field Operations and Transmission Set up and oversee remote productions when assigned, including at single-camera events, remote control rooms at Pittsfield City Hall, and truck-based mobile productions. Assist in tests of remote broadcasts as needed. Prepare and drive production vehicles equipped with remote transmission gear for live and recorded mobile productions. Monitor live and remote programs for problems and correct if possible. Operations Perform signal tests prior to production to ensure proper set up. Schedule channel automation and facility use as instructed by Op. Manager. Troubleshoot and resolve technical faults Training Schedule and teach production workshops (in-person or virtual). Communicate with members using email campaigns, by phone and in person Make suggestions and instruct techniques for improvement of programs during member production and training. Assist in instruction of equipment on loan. Supervise and interface with interns during training and production activities Shared Responsibilities and Collaboration Participate in major projects with team members. Report facility conditions or problems to supervisor and engineer. Enforce company guidelines, station policies, and supervisor directives. Perform any assigned tasks as requested by supervisor or Executive Director. Compensation and Benefits When extending an offer, the organization considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations. The range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00 per hour. As a full-time regular employee, this position is eligible for health insurance, 401(k) with match, FSA, and paid time off.
