Job Description
Adjunct Instructor - Network Fundamentals for Audio and Media Systems Audinate Dante Certification Levels 1, 2, and 3 Required MediaTech Institute is seeking a part-time adjunct instructor to teach Network Fundamentals for Audio and Media Systems . This course introduces computer-networking concepts through practical applications in recording studios, live sound, broadcast, post-production, systems integration, and other professional audio environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong professional background in audio engineering, live sound, studio systems, systems integration, or audio technology, along with hands-on experience configuring Dante and other audio-over-IP systems. We are not primarily seeking a traditional IT instructor. We need an audio professional who can explain networking concepts in a practical, accessible way that is directly relevant to audio-production students. Course Topics The instructor will teach foundational networking and networked-audio concepts, including: IP addressing, subnetting, and basic network architecture DHCP, link-local addressing, and static IP configuration Network switches, routers, and basic routed-network concepts Managed-switch configuration VLAN fundamentals Quality of Service, multicast, and network-traffic fundamentals VPN and remote-access concepts Device discovery and network troubleshooting Connecting DAWs, digital consoles, control surfaces, computers, stage boxes, audio interfaces, and networked signal-processing equipment Audio-over-IP workflows Dante Controller and Dante-enabled devices Dante system setup, subscriptions, signal routing, clocking, configuration, redundancy, and troubleshooting Introduction to additional media-networking standards and platforms, including AES67 and AVB/Milan Students will be expected to complete Audinate Dante Certification Level 1 by the end of the 15-week term. Hands-on activities will include configuring networked audio devices, establishing communication between studio equipment, routing Dante audio, diagnosing connectivity and clocking problems, configuring managed switches, and designing basic networks for studio and live-production environments. Instructor Responsibilities Deliver engaging, practical instruction aligned with the approved course curriculum Explain networking concepts through real-world recording, live-sound, broadcast, and production workflows Lead hands-on labs involving Dante-enabled and networked audio equipment Demonstrate the configuration and operation of Dante Controller Teach students to configure, connect, operate, and troubleshoot professional audio networks Provide clear demonstrations of IP addressing, subnetting, managed switches, VLANs, device discovery, clocking, and signal routing Evaluate student assignments, projects, lab work, and technical competency Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required academic documentation Communicate with students and academic leadership in a timely and professional manner Help students understand how networking skills apply to careers in recording, live sound, broadcast, post-production, systems integration, and commercial AV Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in audio engineering, recording arts, music technology, broadcast technology, information technology, networking, or a closely related field At least four years of verified professional experience in audio engineering, live sound, studio operations, broadcast, systems integration, commercial AV, or networked audio Completion of Audinate Dante Certification Levels 1, 2, and 3 Strong working knowledge of Dante and audio-over-IP workflows Hands-on experience configuring Dante Controller and Dante-enabled devices Practical understanding of IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, managed switches, routers, VLANs, multicast, Quality of Service, and network troubleshooting Experience designing, configuring, operating, or troubleshooting professional audio networks Ability to explain technical networking concepts to students whose primary background is audio production Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills Preferred Qualifications Dante Domain Manager Administrator Certification or Dante Mastery Certification Experience designing or managing Dante networks for recording studios, live venues, houses of worship, broadcast facilities, touring systems, post-production environments, educational facilities, or commercial AV installations Experience configuring managed network switches from manufacturers such as Cisco, Netgear, Yamaha, Luminex, or equivalent Familiarity with AES67, AVB/Milan, NDI, SMPTE ST 2110, or other professional media-networking standards Experience with digital consoles, DAWs, control surfaces, stage boxes, audio interfaces, networked amplifiers, and digital signal-processing equipment Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or technical-presentation experience Additional industry certifications related to networking, AV systems, systems integration, or professional audio
