This is not a full-time or steady-hours DJ position. It is best suited for an established DJ, producer, instructor, or music professional looking for supplementary income who enjoys teaching and mentoring students. Most assignments are private 1-to-1 instruction , with occasional small-group DJ classes. Who We're Looking For Being a talented DJ alone is not enough for this position. We are looking for someone who is: An experienced, technically strong DJ A patient and effective teacher who can explain concepts clearly to beginners Professional, humble, approachable, and encouraging Extremely reliable and punctual Responsive and an excellent communicator Comfortable taking ownership of a student's progress Organized and able to follow an established curriculum Can occasionally teach using a power point or Google Slides presentation A team player willing to help with the small things required to keep a professional school/studio running Minimum 2 years of teaching, coaching, or structured DJ instruction experience strongly preferred. DJ Skills & Knowledge Candidates should be highly proficient with modern professional DJ workflows and able to teach both fundamentals and advanced concepts, including: Pioneer CDJs/controllers and professional DJ equipment Rekordbox and Mixed In Key Mixer operation and signal flow Beats, bars, phrasing, and song structure Manual beatmatching and tempo control Track preparation, cue points, and library organization Track selection and set building Mix points and transitions EQ, filtering, FX, delay, and reverb Harmonic mixing Loops, acapellas, sampling, and creative mixing techniques Tempo changes and programming across a set Reading a crowd and adjusting a set in real time Preparing, recording, and refining a professional DJ set Preparing students to perform confidently in a live venue Experience across multiple genres is important, including House, EDM/Electronic, Hip-Hop, Open Format, Underground, and related styles. Serato, Mixed In Key, vinyl/turntable experience, Ableton Live, music production, or other related skills are a plus. Teaching Is a Major Part of This Position Our students range from complete beginners to DJs looking to advance their skills. The right instructor must be able to meet students at their level, demonstrate techniques clearly, recognize what a student is struggling with, and explain the same concept in different ways when necessary. We want instructors who enjoy seeing students succeed rather than instructors who primarily want to demonstrate their own DJ abilities. Student Ownership & Communication Once Garnish connects you with a student, you will be expected to take professional responsibility for that student and their scheduled lessons.

Communicating directly and promptly with the student when necessary Confirming and managing lesson logistics Arriving early enough to have the studio and equipment ready before the lesson Giving as much notice as possible if a legitimate schedule change is unavoidable Keeping Garnish management informed of schedule changes or student issues Tracking the student's progress through their lesson package/course Responding to management communications within a reasonable timeframe Reliability and communication are non-negotiable. We need instructors who remain reachable and do not disappear or become unresponsive when students are assigned to them.
Venue / Graduate
Performance Development An important part of this role will also be helping Garnish strengthen its connection to Miami's DJ and nightlife community. We are looking for someone capable of identifying, approaching, and developing a relationship with a suitable local bar, lounge, club, or other venue where Garnish can periodically showcase qualified students and graduates. The goal would be to help establish something such as a Garnish graduate/open-decks night approximately once per quarter , depending on the venue and opportunities available.

Networking with local venues, promoters, and DJs Professionally representing Garnish Helping establish and maintain a venue relationship Coordinating with the school to organize occasional student/graduate performances Helping prepare students for their first real-world DJ performances Existing relationships within the Miami nightlife or hospitality community are a significant plus. Studio Responsibilities We operate a boutique school and professional recording studio, so everyone on our team helps maintain the space. Instructors are expected to leave the studio as good as or better than they found it. This includes simple responsibilities such as: Resetting DJ equipment after lessons Keeping the teaching area clean and organized Emptying trash when needed and replacing trash bags Turning off equipment and AC as instructed Reporting immediately if equipment is damaged, malfunctioning, or something happens during a lesson Following studio opening/closing procedures These are small responsibilities, but attention to them is part of being a dependable member of our team. Schedule This is a very part-time, as-needed position and should be viewed as supplementary income rather than primary employment. Hours depend on student enrollment and bookings. Some weeks may have little or no work, while other periods may include multiple private students or a scheduled class. Because students may request different times, reasonable schedule flexibility is highly desirable. Most instruction is in person at our Miami studio, with occasional online instruction possible.
