Job Description

The Owyhee Irrigation District operates two (2) pumping plants: the Dunaway Station, five miles southwest of Nyssa, Oregon, and the Dead Ox Station, 6 miles north of Ontario, Oregon. Both diversion structures are located on the Snake River. These additional water facilities provide water to 14,000 acres of farmland. During the water season, these facilities run 24/7 with three (3) shifts, day 6 AM-2 PM, swing 2 PM-10 PM, and night 10 PM-6 AM, operating each location. Essential Functions Pumping Plant Attendants are responsible for the effective operation and maintenance of the District's water delivery sources. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Dust, sweep, mop, and perform other cleaning duties as required. Take accurate and timely readings from machinery. Remove moss and other debris from water intake grates. Check oil levels, refill when needed, and grease equipment daily. Mow and water lawn, remove weeds, and other grounds keeping duties. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required. Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Carry, push, pull, and use equipment and supplies up to 30 lbs.
  • Stand for long periods and walk on possibly sloped, uneven terrain, sometimes in inclement conditions, including sun exposure in 100-degree weather.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, repeated movement of shoulders and hands to grasp, hold, lift, and turn objects.
Repeated movement of knees and ankles to stoop, bend, crouch, and climb flights of stairs. Experience and Qualifications Must be sixteen (16) years of age. Have a valid Driver's License or reliable form of transportation.
