ROLE OVERVIEW
The production editor handles all aspects of book production for various clients from manuscript through bound book, including author contact, copyediting, prepping for composition, proofreading, indexing, final checks and deliverables, for approximately 35 titles/yr. Other potential work includes managing the production and quick turnaround of journal articles, white papers, and reports.
Responsibilities include:
Adhering to client guidelines throughout the production process and function as main point of contact. Preparing manuscripts for copyeditors, setting style, outlining amount of work needed and setting due date. Reviewing copyedited manuscripts, direct author review of same, and handle questions/concerns from the author as to production. Completing initial preparation of manuscript for composition, including entering author responses to queries, review coding, compile permissions, work with art/design department as needed, and complete all checklists. Directing freelancers/authors in proofreading and indexing; reviewing and incorporating all edits. Submitting written evaluations of freelancer work, as needed. Performing all final checks as necessary before printing; checking blues if required. Maintaining schedules and tracking hours for each project on a daily basis. Handling additional departmental processes or administrative tasks as assigned.
Position Requirements:
College degree Solid command of English language and grammatical conventions. Minimum 2-3 years of directly related experience in publishing. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and technically minded. Proficient with Microsoft Word and Adobe, and able to work with various file formats. Journal experience a plus. Candidates must be able to work on-site at our Danbury, CT, headquarters at least 2-3 days per week. To be considered for this position, please submit your resume and cover letter.
