Managing Editor / Editor The Osage Oracle & Nora Springs Rockford Register A Nelson Media Company Newspaper Nelson Media Company is seeking a driven, community-focused Managing Editor / Editor to lead editorial coverage for both The Osage Oracle and Nora Springs Rockford Register while helping continue the growth of strong local journalism throughout Mitchell and Floyd Counties. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who believes local newspapers matter and enjoys being at the center of the communities they serve. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, storyteller, relationship builder, and organizer who takes pride in producing meaningful journalism that informs, connects, and celebrates local communities. As Managing Editor, you will oversee editorial content for two historic weekly newspapers while working alongside a talented team that includes part-time writers, a Sports Editor, office managers, photographers, and company leadership. This is an opportunity to become the trusted voice of two communities and play a key role in preserving and strengthening local journalism. What You'll Do Lead and manage weekly editorial content for The Osage Oracle and Nora Springs Rockford Register Attend and cover city council meetings, county board of supervisor meetings, school board meetings, and other public meetings Write engaging news stories, feature stories, community profiles, and breaking news coverage Cover local events, business developments, schools, nonprofits, and community happenings Build relationships with community leaders, businesses, schools, organizations, and residents Coordinate and collaborate with part-time writers, photographers, columnists, and contributors Work closely with the Sports Editor to ensure strong overall newspaper coverage Partner with office managers and production staff to meet deadlines and maintain a smooth weekly workflow Develop story ideas that go beyond meeting coverage and highlight the people, history, and success stories that make each community unique Ensure all content meets AP Style and high editorial standards Help grow digital readership through website content and social media engagement Take photographs at community events and assignments as needed What We're Looking For Prior newspaper, journalism, communications, or editorial experience preferred Exceptional writing, editing, interviewing, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities each week Strong communication and relationship-building skills Self-motivated, dependable, and highly organized Comfortable attending evening meetings and community events Photography experience is a plus Knowledge of AP Style preferred A passion for local journalism and community storytelling About Nelson Media Company Nelson Media Company owns and operates multiple community newspapers throughout Iowa and Wisconsin and is committed to investing in the future of local journalism through both print and digital platforms.
