Job Description:

Managing Editor - The Daily Iberian (New Iberia, LA) The Daily Iberian is seeking a dynamic, experienced Managing Editor to lead daily newsroom operations and help drive our mission of high-impact local journalism. This role blends strong editorial judgment with hands-on leadership and a deep understanding of the communities we serve across Louisiana. The Managing Editor oversees content creation and workflow for both our print edition and our growing digital platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging coverage. Key Responsibilities Lead daily newsroom operations: Plan, coordinate, and manage editorial coverage to support efficient daily publishing across print and digital.

Supervise and develop staff:

Recruit, coach, and mentor reporters and contributors; support professional growth through regular feedback and performance evaluations.

Assign and edit content:

Collaborate with the Regional Editor of Louisiana to shape coverage strategy, assign stories, and provide strong editing to ensure accuracy, balance, clarity, and adherence to ethical standards.

Strengthen community connection:

Serve as a visible representative of The Daily Iberian, building relationships with local leaders, organizations, and residents to align coverage with reader interests and community needs.

Execute digital strategy:

Oversee daily web and social publishing, supporting multimedia storytelling and thoughtful audience engagement.

Manage workflow and deadlines:

Maintain editorial calendars, manage competing priorities, and enforce deadlines to ensure consistent production.

Uphold ethics and resolve issues:

Handle newsroom problem-solving, respond to reader feedback as appropriate, and ensure compliance with media law and professional ethics. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field (Master's preferred). 5-8 years of newsroom experience, including demonstrated leadership or management responsibility. Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong command of AP style . Proven ability to lead teams, manage processes, and make sound editorial decisions. Comfort with digital publishing tools, social platforms, and performance/analytics reporting. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
