Job Description

Executive Editor-Billings, MTThe Billings Gazette, Montana's largest newspaper in thestate's largest city, is looking for a dynamic Executive Editor to lead itsnewsroom filled with some of the best reporters and photojournalists in afive-state radius. One of the last true daily newspapers in the RockyMountain West, the Gazette needs a leader who's ready to shepherd a talentednewsroom with energy, creativity, and a passion for accountabilitystorytelling. If you can rally a team, spark new ideas and help us deliverstandout journalism across digital and print platforms, we want to meet you.

As our Executive Editor, you'll set the tone for ourcoverage — from quick turn breaking news and ambitious enterprise reporting todata-driven pieces and features that reflect the Billings and wider EasternMontana community and get people talking. You'll guide daily story planning,shape long-term strategies, edit and coach reporters and streamline workflows.

You should thrive in a busy newsroom, enjoy mentoring journalists, and beexcited about evolving how local news is delivered. We are a digital-forward, multimedia driven group. You'llhelp make sure our online presence is fast, sharp, and indispensable, whichincludes managing important items like email newsletters and social mediaaccounts.

This is a big job in one of Lee Enterprises' biggestnewsrooms. The Gazette plays an integral role in civic life across EasternMontana, and we're seeking a leader who believes deeply in the power of localjournalism. You'll help drive coverage that holds institutions accountable andbuilds trust across the region's communities. Your leadership will directlyinfluence how Montanans understand their city, their government, and oneanother.
