Job Description

ASSISTANT
EDITORThe Mount Airy NewsAdams MultiMedia is seeking an Assistant Editor to join the award-winning team at The Mount Airy News, a community-focused newspaper serving Mount Airy and Surry County, North Carolina.

This is an exciting opportunity for a journalist who is passionate about local news and dedicated to informing, engaging, and connecting the community. The Assistant Editor will work closely with the Regional Editor to produce compelling local journalism while helping oversee editorial content for The Mount Airy News and supporting coverage across other regional publications as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Report on local government, education, business, community events, and breaking news
  • Write accurate, engaging news stories, feature articles, and special projects
  • Photograph news and community events
  • Edit stories for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and AP style
  • Publish and promote content on our website and social media platforms
  • Collaborate with the Regional Editor to plan daily and weekly news coverage
  • Assist with editorial coverage for other Adams MultiMedia publications as neededQualifications
  • Passion for community journalism and storytelling
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong news judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Experience with photography and digital publishing is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred
