NHPRis looking for a managing editor to oversee our flagship daily news magazines,Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and help guide the evolution of the magazinesto serve our multiplatform audience strategy. We want someone with a proventrack record of leading the production of ambitious, compelling broadcastjournalism, including interviews, breaking news coverage, reported fieldpieces, and other segments. Our ideal candidate will have a strong vision forredefining local audio journalism to reach, inform, and entertain newaudiences. This person will be a leader in our newsroom, working across teamsto inspire effective collaboration. They will manage a four-person team of twohosts and two producers. This editor will also play a key role for our newsroomin spotting and developing talent as they lead our hiring processes. Thisis a full-time, exempt, onsite role based in Concord, New Hampshire, reportingto our News Director. The budgeted salary range is $89,300 - $99,000 depending onqualifications. We also consider internal equity, among other factors, whendeciding compensation.
Essential Duties Include:
- Overseeall editorial aspects of NHPR's morning and afternoon weekday news magazines.
- Managea team of hosts, producers, interns and fellows, including training, goalsetting, performance management, professional mentorship, and editorialguidance.
- Serveas lead editor on stories, interviews, and other broadcast segments from pitchthrough final draft.
- Guaranteethe on-time, flawless delivery of audio to multiple platforms.
- Managelive and/or remote broadcasts, including election nights, live debates andforums, and other special programming.
- Serveas the NHPR newsroom's lead on assorted administrative tasks, including hiring,onboarding and scheduling.
Other ResponsibilitiesInclude:
- Overseeand/or collaborate on special projects and series as appropriate.
- Participatein and lead group pitch meetings, storyboards, and edits.
- Workclosely with our digital and audience teams to translate our audio segments toengaging stories for digital and social platforms.
- Partnerwith the News Director on improving workflows, professional development andother operational leadership tasks in the newsroom.
- As needed, participate in stationfundraising activities.
Qualifications:
- Sevento ten years of experience in audio journalism, including reporting, producingand/or editing for broadcast.
- Threeto five years leading and managing a team and inspiring them to produce theirbest work.
- Excellenteditorial judgment and attention to detail.
- Abilityto train less experienced staff and to challenge staff with moreexperience.
- Strongproject management skills.
