We're seeking a Subject Matter Expert/Editor Level II to serve as Key Personnel, providing senior-level editing support for NLM's biomedical vocabularies — primarily the UMLS Metathesaurus and RxNorm, with potential support for MeSH and the
SNOMED CT US
Extension. This is a hybrid position with rare in-person work at NLM's Bethesda, MD facility. Employment is contingent upon BG Consulting Services being awarded the contract. What You'll Do Edit and create UMLS Metathesaurus concepts: verify/correct semantic type assignments, resolve synonymy conflicts, review relationships, and merge concepts as needed Perform ongoing Metathesaurus quality assurance (multi-semantic-type concepts, duplicate strings, inactive source data, preferred-name assignment) Review new and existing drug sources for RxNorm; assign or create normalized forms; perform weekly RxNorm data QA, NDC conflict review, and CUI/archival review Assist in mapping between source vocabularies (e.g., SNOMED CT and other controlled vocabularies), including conflict resolution and documentation of mapping decisions Support QA of UMLS release files prior to publication Maintain editing manuals and public technical documentation, ensuring Section 508 (accessibility) compliance Provide customer/user support for UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, DailyMed, and AccessGUDID inquiries via NLM's CRM tool, responding within 5 business days Support usability/functionality testing of NLM editing systems after updates and report issues same-day Lead and coordinate biomedical vocabulary work within a team of editors; may assist with training new editors Provide backup coverage on an assigned product when the NLM Technical Lead is unavailable Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, engineering, or a related healthcare field At least 3 years of experience creating, maintaining, and/or mapping nationally recognized, federally endorsed biomedical vocabularies (e.g., RxNorm, SNOMED CT) Proven ability to lead and coordinate biomedical vocabulary projects within a team environment Comfortable working independently and resolving difficult terminology issues with minimal oversight Able to obtain and maintain NIH PIV badging and NLM/NIH system access (U.S. work authorization required) Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience with UMLS Metathesaurus, RxNorm, MeSH, and/or
SNOMED CT

SNOMED CT
Foundation or Authoring Level 1 certification Prior experience supporting NLM, NIH, or another federal terminology/vocabulary program
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
