Job Description
The Lexington County Chronicle is looking for an energetic editor committed to helping our staff reinvent local media in Lexington, South Carolina, and the surrounding region. The full-time journalist will lead our newsroom in covering Lexington County through the weekly newspaper, quarterly magazines and email newsletters. The journalist will also manage freelance writers in optimizing local content with the goal of building local audience and sponsored content.
The journalist will join our small, incredible multimedia team that is revolutionizing local content through both print and online programming. The applicant will be eager to pitch and assign stories and collaborate with other staff to produce engaging written and multimedia content. The ideal candidate will enjoy experimenting with new ways to tell stories through print, video, social, podcasts and digital media. The position may involve occasional evening and/or weekend work.
The Lexington County Chronicle is a family-owned company and boasts a creative flexibility rare among local news organizations. The Chronicle is a sister publication to The Sumter Item in Sumter, S.C. and Gulf Coast Media in Baldwin County, AL. This position will report to the group publisher.
Lexington County is a vital, quickly growing area of South Carolina, and one that is incredibly varied. From the Town of Lexington's rapidly rejuvenating downtown to Lake Murray to the more metropolitan Cayce and West Columbia, just on the Lexington side of the Congaree River, to the many small towns that dot the countryside, it's an area that comprises several distinct communities.

Experience covering local and regional news required, editing experience strongly preferred.
Experience taking high-quality photos and video is a plus.

Experience with innovative forms of multimedia storytelling are all a plus.

Requirements & Qualifications:
College Degree required, preferably in the field of Journalism.Experience covering local and regional news required, editing experience strongly preferred.
