•Job Details:
Purpose The senior editor is a key leader in our award-winning newsroom. This experienced journalist oversees a talented team of beat reporters who tell stories for audio and digital audiences. The editor works collaboratively to strategize about coverage, plan for news events and help reporters craft engaging features and break new ground.The ideal candidate is:
passionate about mentoring reporters to do their best work and reach the next stages of their careers; a sharp editor who can see and hear what a story is missing; an innovative thinker about how to tell stories on multiple platforms; and a collaborator who is comfortable working with multimedia, digital and events teams. The senior editor reports to the executive editor of KUT News & The Texas Newsroom, Corrie MacLaggan. Responsibilities Assigns and edits news stories, features and two-ways for on-air and digital platforms. Guides reporters in juggling breaking news and enterprise reporting. Collaborates with digital and multimedia teams on stories. Identifies stories KUT should be covering and keeps the newsroom ahead of the curve on local and national news. Runs news meetings as assigned. Supervises reporters and works to develop their skills. Works in collaboration with other editors on plans for special projects, election coverage and other major events. Manages outside content partnerships, including making sure we are sharing KUT stories and picking up relevant stories from our partner stations from The Texas Newsroom. Makes public appearances at events promoting KUT News or its outreach activities as assigned. Participates in on-air fundraising as assigned. On-call as back-up editor and during breaking news, the weekends and emergencies. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Five years' experience in journalism that includes experience in breaking news coverage on multiple platforms. At least one year experience as an editor. Basic understanding of digital content management systems. One or more years supervising and mentoring employees. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Ten years' experience as a journalist, including editing radio news and extensive digital writing and editing. Experience with Adobe Audition. Fluent in Spanish. Salary Range $80,000- $95,000 Working Conditions Standard office conditions.
