Design & Fabrication Specialist Turn ideas into working products. If you enjoy designing something on a screen and then stepping into the shop to actually build, test, modify, and improve it , this is the kind of engineering role you've been looking for. As our Design & Fabrication Specialist , you'll play a hands-on role in developing the next generation of high-performance door systems used in demanding refrigerated, life science, industrial, commercial, and security applications. You'll work alongside engineers and designers to take concepts from CAD models and early ideas to fabricated prototypes, testing, refinement, and ultimately production-ready solutions. This position is ideal for someone who likes to create and solve problems with both their mind and their hands . One day you may be developing a SolidWorks model; the next you could be machining, forming, welding, 3D printing, assembling, or testing the prototype you helped design. If you're a builder, designer, problem-solver, and innovator who would rather create something than simply talk about it, we want to hear from you.
SolidWorks preferred. Hands on fabrication skills with multiple materials and processes. Strong working knowledge of materials, fabricating techniques, and rapid prototyping methods. Excellent problem solving skills and ability to innovate under tight deadlines. Good internal communication skills and collaborative teamwork approach PLC and microprocessor control system experience is a plus. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of software Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documents, such as drawings, schedules, and routings. Attention to detail and commitment to quality craftmanship.
Summary:
This position supports new product development and product enhancement for a leading manufacturer of high-performance door systems designed to meet the challenges within today's highly demanding refrigerated, life science, industrial, commercial and security markets. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Engineering & Business Processes, the Design & Fabrication Specialist is responsible for new product development and/or product enhancement work including design, prototyping, fabricating, and testing. Additional duties include developing drawings and models and working with designers to guide the detailed design and drawing packet development. Must be able to work in a team based, technical environment with a focus on innovation and creativity to meet evolving customer needs for special designs, enhancements, and modifications in a timely manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned:
Work closely with design teams to develop detailed plans & models. Fabricate components in multiple materials. Materials may include metals, plastics, composites, wood and fabrics. Processes may include cutting, punching, machining, forming, welding, 3D printing, tapping, etc Work with suppliers to gain design input, quote and purchase raw materials and parts. Ensure parts meet design specifications and quality standards. Assemble and install prototypes for testing. Oversee testing and record results. Project planning and management to ensure projects are completed on time. Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to refine designs and resolve technical challenges, Occasionally design and fabricate parts for maintenance repairs or fixtures/tools for production. Maintain accurate records of design iterations, materials used, and fabrication process. Conduct product tests, record, and report on results. Demonstrate safe working practices and adhere to all safety protocols.Required skills/competencies:
