Job Description
The Times Journal is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer / Composer to join our newspaper production team. This position is responsible for designing advertisements, creating page layouts, preparing print-ready files, and assisting with the visual presentation of both print and digital content. The ideal candidate has strong design skills, thrives in a deadline-driven environment, and takes pride in producing high-quality work that serves local businesses and our community. Responsibilities Design newspaper advertisements for local businesses Create and assemble newspaper pages for print publication Prepare files for commercial printing Design promotional materials including flyers, brochures, banners, and special publications Work directly with advertisers to develop effective ad concepts Maintain brand consistency across print and digital products Collaborate with editors, journalists, sales staff, and management Ensure all projects meet production deadlines Perform photo editing and image preparation Assist with special sections, magazines, and community publications Qualifications Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or Illustrator preferred Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual design Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Excellent attention to detail Strong communication and customer service skills Newspaper, printing, or advertising experience preferred but not required Ability to work independently and as part of a team
