About the Opportunity This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. Job Description This position is responsible for performing mail handling and sorting tasks in the Mail and Copy Center. The mail handling and sorting functions consists of a variety of duties in the collection, processing, and distribution of intercampus, commercial carriers, and U.S (United States) Mail. The emphasis of the work is on the accurate and rapid processing of mail. Job requirements include ability to operate high volume copier, and printing equipment daily, receiving job requests over the counter and/or electronically, utilizing computers to coordinate, print, and meet established deadlines for copying related projects. Supervision is provided by the Mail and Copy Center Office Manager who provides advice and assistance on difficult problems. Office Manager also reviews work for satisfactory performance in accordance with U.S. Postal regulations. This position supports the Mission Statement of Mills College at Northeastern University by delivering excellent support and services to students, staff, and faculty. Through its operational excellence, it advances the initiatives of the strategic plan by ensuring goals are well established, monitored and measured to meet the plan's timelines and objectives. This position plays a significant role in supporting sustainability programs and creating a vibrant campus life.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
USPS rules and regulations preferred. Typical equipment used in a Mail and Copy Center (i.e., Postage meters, cash registers, high-end digital copier etc.) preferred. Familiarity with basic computer programs such as: Outlook, Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrate professional discretion and preserve workplace confidentiality. Solid communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service skills. Be able to work collaboratively or independently. Be able to follow and implement given directions. Complete work assignments on schedule. Follow oral and written instructions. Take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a multicultural environment.
Education, Training & Experience:
2-3 years' experience in a mail or print center preferred, or comparable administrative role, preferred. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited institution and one year of related experience. California Driver's license valid and proof of insurance, with a safe driving record.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Noise and vibrations from equipment operation. Frequent interruptions. Indoor and outdoor work. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping, and carrying of equipment, tools, and other related materials. Reaching vertically & horizontally above the shoulders. Lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50lbs.) Pushing / pulling mail carts and making use of hand trucks.
