The Role:
60 Grit Studios is seeking a Midlevel Graphic Designer to lead the technical execution of design files used for fabrication and client approval. This is not an entry-level position; it is intended for a professional continuing their career in production-focused design or design for fabrication. Working as a core part of the design team, you will translate client-provided designs and project scopes into detailed drawings, print-ready files, CNC cut files, and 3D models. While you report directly to design managers who oversee priorities and timelines, you are expected to handle assigned project tasks with a high level of technical proficiency from design through installation. This role offers a strong opportunity to work on diverse projects with room for long-term growth. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. We are looking for a technical problem-solver and proactive communicator who is eager to take on new challenges, refine their skillset, and resolve production issues before they reach the shop floor. The hourly range reflects the base pay for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. In accordance with California law, we do not consider salary history in determining compensation.
Responsibilities:
Project Review & Asset QC:
Review client-provided concepts, artwork, and project scope documentation to ensure design intent is clear. Proactively identify potential production challenges, missing information, or file issues early. Read and interpret complex architectural and CAD drawings.
Collaboration:
Proactively communicate project details, status updates, materials, and production requirements with design managers, project managers, the design team, and fabrication teams.
Technical Drafting:
Develop and revise technical drawings and graphic layouts using Adobe Illustrator, CAD tools, and Rhinoceros 3D. All work must be drawn to scale with high accuracy. This requires basic production math, such as fraction-to-decimal conversions and precise measurements.
Fabrication Prep:
Make informed decisions on file setup based on specific materials and fabrication methods, sharing accurate measurements, guidelines, and visuals to assist with fabrication processes and installation needs.
Print Quality & Color :
Conduct thorough quality control checks on printed materials to ensure correct scale, material, color, and quantity. This includes performing precise color matching to specified PMS standards, sometimes with new materials or complex imagery.
Project Documentation:
Use ClickUp and Google Workspace to track updates, maintain an accurate history of project details, and keep files organized within shared systems. Keep track of multiple priorities with minimal oversight while ensuring accuracy across all deliverables.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field (or equivalent experience) 2-5 years of design or production-focused experience Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop on Mac OS Experience working with CAD tools and/or production workflows, with a deep understanding of technical file setup Advanced working knowledge of Rhinoceros 3D, SketchUp, or other 3D modeling software Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision while meeting tight deadlines Familiarity with fabrication materials (wood, metal, acrylic) and the ability to translate concepts into accurate, production-ready files
Physical & Schedule Requirements:
Primarily office-based work (sitting and/or standing for extended periods) Ability to lift and move light materials (up to 15 lbs.) Frequent communication with team members (in-person and digital) Work conducted in a shared, open office environment Project-related visits to the production/shop floor Occasional off-site site visits or field measurements as needed This role may require overtime and weekend work based on project needs, which will be compensated in accordance with applicable law Employees are provided meal and rest breaks in accordance with applicable California law How to
