Interior Designer Job Description The Interior Designer is a collaborative, self-directed professional responsible for supporting the planning, design, coordination, and documentation of interior environments across all phases of a project. This role contributes to the successful delivery of projects through creative design ideation, precise technical execution, and effective cross-disciplinary coordination, with a focus on multifamily, commercial, or institutional building types. Responsibilities Contribute to design ideation, development, and execution throughout all phases of interior design projects. Participate in regular project communications and coordination efforts with internal teams and external partners. Prepare and develop design visualization materials, including presentation decks, renderings, and conceptual sketches. Produce and coordinate complete technical drawing sets for all project phases, including Design Development, Construction Documents, permitting, and bidding. Develop and maintain construction documentation to support accurate and efficient project delivery. Conduct material research and support the selection of products, finishes, and materials, including preparation of specifications and finish schedules. Assist with the selection, coordination, and procurement of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE). Collaborate closely with project team members to ensure design intent, quality standards, and technical accuracy are maintained throughout the project. Support documentation standards, organization, and consistency across all project deliverables. Contribute to space planning solutions that balance aesthetics, function, and code requirements in commercial and housing-focused projects. Utilize Revit and other design tools to model, document, and coordinate interior environments. Support project management activities by helping track design progress, documentation status, and coordination items as needed. Essential Skills A minimum of 4+ years of experience in the design industry, preferably working on multifamily, commercial, or institutional building types. Proficiency in Revit, including the ability to produce and coordinate construction documents and design development drawings. Experience with construction documentation and familiarity with all major project phases, including Design Development, Construction Documents, permitting, and bidding. Strong understanding of interior design principles, including space planning, material selection, and FFE coordination. Experience with design development, schematic design, and production of technical drawings. Ability to prepare and refine design visualization materials such as renderings, presentation decks, and conceptual sketches. Proficiency in BlueBeam for reviewing, marking up, and coordinating drawing sets. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to adapt to industry-standard project management and coordination tools. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary project teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain documentation standards and consistency across deliverables. Commercial project experience, with housing experience preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with design software such as SketchUp and AutoCAD for modeling, documentation, and space planning. Experience using Enscape for real-time visualization and rendering is preferred. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite for presentation graphics and design communication is preferred. Additional accreditations such as LEED, WELL, Passive House, or similar sustainability and building performance credentials are highly valued. Experience in hospitality or other commercial sectors is beneficial. Demonstrated interest in innovation, sustainability, and adaptive reuse projects. Passion for design and engagement in extracurricular or industry-related activities, such as design organizations, competitions, or community design initiatives. Strong communication skills, both visual and verbal, to clearly present design concepts and technical information. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment. Work Environment The role is based in a studio environment of approximately 12 employees with an in-office schedule that supports close collaboration and mentorship. The team operates in a supportive, team-oriented culture that values diverse perspectives, equity, sustainability, and innovation. The work focuses on mission-driven projects that revitalize urban spaces and promote inclusive, sustainable development, particularly within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. The studio emphasizes design excellence, forward-thinking strategies, and environmentally responsible practices, including adaptive reuse and high-performance design. Designers regularly use tools such as Revit, BlueBeam, Microsoft Office, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite, along with industry-standard management platforms. The environment encourages professional growth, including pursuing certifications such as LEED, WELL, or Passive House, and gaining hands-on experience across all phases of design and construction. Attire is typical of a professional design studio, suitable for both in-office collaboration and occasional site or client interactions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Washington, DC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
- Paid Time off: 3 weeks/yr (15 work days per 12 months of work). Up to 1 week of unused vacation may be rolled over to the next year.
Holidays:
7 holidays/year plus 1 floating holiday.
