An Interior Designer plans and designs interior spaces for buildings, including houses, offices and commercial buildings. Recommends and selects material, colors and furnishings to be used, including fabrics, flooring and furniture. May specialize in lighting design, or designing kitchens, bathrooms or closets; may focus on improving energy and water efficiency in a building.
Project-based; anticipated availability of approximately 20-40 hours per week, depending on project volume. Workload is not guaranteed and will fluctuate based on business needs. To support our growing healthcare practice, we are seeking experienced independent design professionals to collaborate with our Health team on a contract basis. Position Overview Bialek is seeking an experienced Healthcare Interior Designer to provide project-based design and furniture specification services for healthcare environments. The ideal candidate has extensive dealership experience specifying MillerKnoll and comparable furniture products, understands the complexities of healthcare planning, and can work independently while collaborating seamlessly with the Bialek Team. Assignments may include hospitals, ambulatory care centers, outpatient clinics, medical office buildings, behavioral health facilities, specialty care centers, and other healthcare environments. Project scope, duration, and workload will vary. Scope of Services The contracted Healthcare Interior Designer may be responsible for: Developing healthcare furniture layouts, specifications, finish selections, and design documentation. Preparing furniture specifications utilizing MillerKnoll and other approved commercial furniture manufacturers. Producing space plans, installation drawings, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD and CET. Coordinating and supporting the design of healthcare projects from concept through specification. Collaborating with Bialek Account Managers, Project Managers, and clients to deliver successful project outcomes. Participating in client meetings, presentations, and design reviews, both virtually and in person. Reviewing architectural drawings, project specifications, and design intent documents. Providing recommendations that support healthcare workflows, patient care, infection prevention, staff efficiency, and evidence-based design principles. Assisting with FF&E specifications, proposal responses, and bid documentation. Coordinating with architects, designers, contractors, and manufacturer representatives throughout project execution. Managing multiple project assignments while meeting established deadlines. Remaining current on healthcare design trends, building codes, ADA requirements, healthcare regulations, and commercial furniture solutions. Utilizing approved AI tools and other technologies to improve project efficiency and accuracy. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from a CIDA/FIDER-accredited program. Minimum five (5) years of healthcare interior design and commercial furniture specification experience. Demonstrated experience specifying MillerKnoll healthcare furniture products. Experience working for a MillerKnoll dealer or commercial furniture dealership strongly preferred. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and CET. Experience with ProjectMatrix, CAP, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other industry-standard specification software preferred. Strong understanding of healthcare planning, furniture applications, interior architecture, and space planning. Experience supporting acute care, ambulatory care, outpatient clinics, medical office buildings, specialty clinics, and healthcare administrative environments. Thorough knowledge of healthcare furniture standards, building codes, ADA requirements, and evidence-based design principles. Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and presentation skills. Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong client-service orientation with exceptional attention to detail. LEED Accredited Professional, EDAC (Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification), or other healthcare-related certifications are preferred. Preferred Experience Preference will be given to candidates with experience in: MillerKnoll dealership operations. Furniture specification for large healthcare systems and IDIQ contracts. Healthcare furniture standards and product applications. Working directly with architects, healthcare planners, contractors, and healthcare systems. Medical equipment coordination and integration with furniture layouts. Knowledge of DIRTT, demountable walls, and integrated interior construction solutions. The selected contractor will:
Provide services on a project-by-project and as-needed basis. Maintain availability to meet mutually agreed project schedules and deadlines. Work independently while coordinating closely with Bialek project teams. Supply their own computer, software licenses, and office equipment unless otherwise agreed. Maintain all required business licenses, professional certifications, and insurance appropriate for independent consulting services. Be responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes associated with compensation. Submit invoices in accordance with agreed-upon billing procedures and payment terms. This engagement does not guarantee a minimum number of hours or future project assignments.
Pay:
$50.00 - $60.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 40.0 per week
