Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A fantastic contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter who is passionate about empowering young learners. In this on-site position, you'll provide one-to-one support to an elementary student, facilitating inclusive communication and access to all areas of their educational experience. Bring your expertise and commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for the upcoming school year.
Key Qualifications:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong knowledge of interpreting protocols Current national interpreter certification (such as RID or equivalent) Prior experience supporting students in elementary educational settings, particularly in a one-on-one capacity Ability to collaborate with educational staff, therapists, and families to ensure optimal support Flexible, positive, and professional attitude Capacity to maintain confidentiality and adhere to school district policies Open to candidates of any gender
Core Responsibilities:
Provide real-time sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, school activities, and interactions Adapt communication style for a young learner's developmental and educational needs Assist with conveying curriculum information, assignments, and social interactions Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes, as required Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and other relevant conferences Work closely with classroom teacher and staff to ensure a seamless educational experience Uphold ethical standards and student privacy at all times This full-time role offers a consistent schedule of 37.5 hours per week, all performed on-site at an elementary school in the Hazel Green area.
