Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a difference every day by supporting elementary students as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter. This contract-based opportunity offers a rewarding chance to assist learners in an engaging school setting near Madison, AL, working on-site in a one-on-one capacity with a student who relies on your expertise for communication and success in the classroom. Your skills will empower and enrich the educational experiences of students who use American Sign Language.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and competency as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) Previous experience interpreting in a school setting, especially elementary education, is highly valued Certification or credentialing in sign language interpretation preferred Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and staff
Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one interpretation services to an elementary student throughout the school day Serve as a communication bridge between the student and classroom instructor, peers, and school staff Support classroom access by interpreting lessons, activities, and discussions Employ discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times Adapt interpreting style to student's learning needs and classroom environment
