Qualifications 1. Translator/Interpreter certification preferred. 2. High school graduate or equivalent (GED). Two years of college preferred. 3. Oral and written proficiency in English and specified language(s). 4. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. 5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 6. Valid Alabama driver's license. 7. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 8. Supervisor Administrator of English Learners and Bilingual Family Engagement FLSA Status Non-Exempt Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Experience translating/interpreting for a school and/or company. 2. Working knowledge of the basic functions of schools and school districts. 3. Respect the confidentiality of the information pertaining to students and staff. 4. Computer skills necessary for updating website, using Microsoft Office, Google Docs, etc. 5. Uses excellent business grammar, spelling, and punctuation in both English and specified language(s). 6. Communicates clearly and concisely, orally, in writing, and via electronic communications media in both English and the specified language(s). 7. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others. 8. Works effectively under minimum supervision. 9. Organizes translations electronically and maintain accurate records. 10. Possesses physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment. E ssential Functions 1. Attends various types of district related meetings, during school and occasionally after-hours, for the purpose of serving as interpreter. 2. Participates in workshops, conferences and/or meetings for the purpose of maintaining skills for professional growth and/or conveying information. 3. Performs a wide variety of clerical work for the purpose of supporting the district in providing necessary records/materials in English and the preferred language(s). 4. Prepares various documents for the purpose of providing/translating materials in preferred language(s). 5. Reads a variety of materials for the purpose of interpreting in preferred language(s). 6. Translates/Interprets verbatim and idiomatic materials and conversations for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of information between languages. 7. Verifies translations made by others for the purpose of reviewing and editing materials for accuracy, context, readability, grammar and style. 8. Assists with interpreting for student testing activities as assigned. 9. Communicates and collaborates with ESL Team as needed. 10. Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 11. Manages data/projects for English as a Second Language Department as assigned by supervisor. 12. Works collaboratively with the Public Relations Department to ensure families receive district information in the preferred language. 13. Takes leave in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to the district's absence management system 14. Reports to work on time and regularly as designated by work schedule. 15. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned. Terms of employment The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act, and the Board's Salary Schedule - Interpreter/Translator (187 contract days). This position is deemed temporary and occasional. It is anticipated that the position will be eliminated on or before the last day of the 2022-2023 school year when the funding for this position ends. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
