Parent and Community Liaison - Bilingual 21007 Poway Unified School District - 4.1 San Diego, CA Job Details Part-time $20.15 - $25.78 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Spanish Research High school diploma or GED Driver's License Home visits (communication methods) Full Job Description Description Applicants for this position must be bilingual- proficient in Spanish (speak, read, and write).' The current available position is split between the following school sites: Midland Elementary School and Twin Peaks Middle School. This position is 30 hours per week/6 hours per day, 9.5 months a year (includes benefits) •Selection Procedure Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission. Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
BASIC FUNCTION
Under direction, serve as a liaison between sites and departments and non-English speaking parents; provide assistance and information to parents in all aspects of student registration, placement, and community resources; provide interpreting and translating services to site and district personnel.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Parent and Community Liaison - Bilingual serves as a liaison between sites and departments and non-English speaking parents, providing assistance and information to parents in all aspects of student registration, placement, and community resources. The Parent Liaison serves as a liaison between the Special Education department and the parents of students with special needs, providing assistance and information to parents in areas related to special education functions, student placement, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and community resources. Incumbents in the Parent and Community Liaison classification will perform all of the same duties as the Parent & Community Liaison - Bilingual classification, with the exclusion of responsibilities related to translating and interpreting for non-English speaking parents. Examples of DutiesREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Serve as a liaison between school sites/departments and non-English speaking parents of students; respond to inquiries, resolve issues and concerns, and provide information concerning programs, guidelines, requirements, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Make home visits and telephone calls to non-English speaking parents of students; encourage interest and involvement in school activities; escort parents to observe classroom activities, and enhance understanding of student placement options; arrange related schedules. Serve as a resource for local community events; attend community support group meetings and provide information concerning school functions and activities; prepare and distribute notices and other informational materials to school sites and the community. Research community resources that provide services to non-English speakers; provide referrals to community resource services, and provide information to parents. Communicate with District personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Maintain routine records related to mileage and assigned activities. Perform related duties as assigned as they relate to this classification. Minimum QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years' experience working with non-English speaking parents and students. Experience working with a community service organization is desirable.LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
