Location:
Department of State Hospital - Napa, 2100 Napa-Vallejo Highway. In this role, the interpreter will facilitate clear, accurate, and impartial communication between Vietnamese-speaking individuals and English-speaking staff in healthcare, social services, legal, and community settings. Daily responsibilities include providing consecutive interpretation in person, ensuring confidentiality and cultural sensitivity, and accurately conveying both content and tone of spoken messages. The interpreter will prepare for assignments by reviewing terminology, follow agency protocols and documentation procedures, and collaborate with coordinators and clients to support effective communication. The role may also involve occasional written language support, such as sight translation of brief documents, and participation in training or quality assurance activities. Qualifications Strong Vietnamese and English language proficiency, including advanced speaking, listening, and comprehension skills. Demonstrated interpreting abilities, with experience in consecutive interpretation and sight translation in community or professional settings. Knowledge of professional ethics and standards for interpreters, including confidentiality, impartiality, and accuracy. Cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse communities and individuals in potentially sensitive environments. Ability to work on-site in Sarasota, FL, adhere to schedules, and manage multiple assignments reliably. Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear communication, active listening, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in interpreting or linguistics is preferred. Prior experience interpreting in healthcare, legal, social services, or government settings is a plus. Comfort with basic documentation and use of communication technologies required by clients and the agency.
