Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity as an ASL Language Facilitator, making a profound impact in a diverse, urban school community near Danbury, CT. This full-time contract role runs from August 27th, 2026, through June 11th, 2027, offering 32.5 hours per week dedicated to supporting student success. With two openings available, you'll have the chance to work one-on-one with either a preschooler or a 5th grader, collaborating with educators passionate about inclusive learning. As an ASL Language Facilitator, you will: Provide one-on-one interpretation and ASL support to ensure students fully comprehend classroom material Tutor and reinforce academic content, helping to build students' ASL vocabulary and communication skills Collaborate closely with general and special education teachers, as well as the Teacher of the Deaf, to tailor support for student needs Adapt your approach to support learners at varying developmental and language proficiency levels Embrace and contribute to the inclusive atmosphere of a richly diverse school community Desired skills and experience: Fluency in American Sign Language is essential Prior experience in a school setting is highly preferred RID certification and/or EIPA score are a plus, but not mandatory—strong ASL skills and passion for student growth are key Open to working with students in a range of grade levels (preschool or 5th grade) Collaborative spirit and adaptability Interviews are conducted virtually with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf to assess the best student fit for your expertise and interests.
